I have always wanted to try Boma at AKL. My hubby is an extremely picky eater and I am concerned there won't be enough there to satisfy him. He is not adventureous at all & definitely not really into trying new things. He is pretty much a steak & potatos, pizza & cheeseburger kinda guy. So my question is, are there things at Boma for the extremely picky eater or is everything pretty much exotic? Im also wondering the same thing about Ohana? TIA:)

I can speak for Boma that there is a kids food island, albeit, not a huge selection but may work for you. They had plain spaghetti and meatballs, chicken tenders, and mac & cheese. For dessert, there are more "normal" options like brownies and cookies and such that would appeal to a kid. These are what stick out in my mind at the moment.

I think he would be fine at Boma. I have an extremely picky husband (MUCH pickier than yours) and I would be willing to take him to Boma out of all places. Ohana would be a no though.

Boma:
There is a kid's section like the PP mentioned, so I'm sure he'd do just fine there.

O'hana:
If he likes meat, I can't imagine why he wouldn't like it there. If he doesn't like the salad/sides, there's always all those skewers filled with meat.

Does the meat at Ohana have lots of spices and sauces on it?

I am a SUPER picky eater. Always have been. Like, to the point that my dad had to buy separated plates when I was younger because I couldn't even have my food touching. I have never met a pickier eater than myself!

That said...'Ohana is by far my favorite restaurant in all of WDW.

They have 4 kinds of meat (shrimp, chicken, beef, and pork) grilled on skewers. They taste basically like they would if you threw them on your grill at home It comes with dipping sauces, but he wouldn't have to use those if he doesn't want to (although I did find that I enjoyed the sweet and sour sauce).

There are also chicken wings, potstickers, veggies, noodles, bread, and salad with a very light dressing. The chicken wings have too much sauce for my taste, and I don't like potstickers, but I enjoy everything else.

I really think he'd be OK here...if he eats plain grilled meat, he shouldn't go hungry.

If he is meat and potatoes guy...he will be fine with Ohana.
The meats are grilled on a fire grill, no stuff on them. They do serve 3 sauces at the table people can use, but if he doesn't like them, he doesn't have to use them.
So he should be set there.

Now Boma is another story, unless he plans to eat the mac and cheese and chicken nuggets from the kids station...move on to another place.
All of Boma's spices are sweet in nature. Everything has spices like cinnamon, vanilla and fruit flavors to them....INCLUDING the meats!!!
We are meat and potatoes people, that do like to eat adventerously, but Boma was like eating dessert for the entire meal.
I do not think he will enjoy it. We didn't.

I am a very picky eater.

Ohana is my favorite TS restaurant. yummmm There are a couple things I don't eat (I don't eat pork, meat on the bone, seafood/shrimp) but there is PLENTY that I absolutely love.

DH really wanted to try Boma last year. I wanted to visit AKL since we stayed there the year before and missed it, so I agreed. It was my least favorite meal. There wasn't much I would eat. I ended up eating mostly just the potatoes (mixture of mashed potatoes and sweet potatoes). We won't be returning to Boma.

My FIL is very picky (raised in rural mountain part of NC-didn't eat pizza or salad until he was 18, couldn't get him to eat fondue, won't go to a Chinese restaurant, etc.). We did Boma and Ohana. He liked Ohana-the meats are not flavored that exotically and sauce is on the side (it was probably his favorite meal of the trip). You can even get just ice cream for dessert.

He didn't love Boma...I think he found enough to eat, but I think he thought the meat was too sweet. My MIL, DH, and myself enjoyed it, and we were staying at AKL on the dining plan (and we had great service) so it was fine. I think DS, DH, and FIL ate a lot of stuff from the kids selection (which is totally fine)

Boma also has roasted chicken, prime rib carving station. Both of those were enough to make my DH forget about any 'odd' items and request to return more then once this next trip.
(JMO) I think Boma was better then Ohana, it was fine, but neither of us are interested in returning. Shrimp, Pork(over cooked) chicken legs were decent. Noodles better then I expected, salad was good. Drinks and atmosphere were really nice.

My DH is just the opposite...he did NOT enjoy dinner at Boma (he loves the breakfast, though) and he really enjoyed Ohana. He doesn't like onions, green peppers, curries, and other "odd" spices, but he does like hot spices:confused3 He was able to eat almost everything at Ohana.

I guess it depends what they are "picky" on. There's not one thing my husband would eat at Ohana's :( No meat, no fruit, no veggies... he literally does not eat any of those items (yeah, lucky me :sad2:)

Thanks everyone for sharing your opinions. Based on the feedback I think that Ohana might be a better choice for our family! Thanks again:thanks:
