boma- keep or delete

We are staying on site for the first time and have the free dining plan with ds10 and ds12. I love animals and really want to visit AKL while we are there. Since it seemed to be a must do, I have an ADR at Boma. The more I read t he more I think I should cancel.

Hubby and I are adventurous eaters, but not big eaters. DS12 great at tasting things, but doesn't eat much. DS10, picky, picky, picky and doesn't eat much at all.

I really do not like buffets in general. I don't like having a bunch of miss matched food on my plate. (this is the only buffet we have adr's for)

Loving the look of Sanaa. The menu looks great. We have never dined at an Indian restaurant before. My ds12 loves Indian food...his friend is Indian and his mom makes chicken curry that my son can't get enough of.

I am worried that ds10 won't eat anything. I would buy him a kids meal OOP, but I have read that they won't allow it. Any thoughts?

Should I just keep the Boma and give it a try? Is it worth it? I keep hearing that the soups are great, but I want the majority of the meal to be great!

For your picky eater there's a "normal" selection of salad, fruits, chicken fingers. Boma's more unusual offerings include unusual salads,(love the watermelon rind salad)veggies prepared with different spices and unique sauces at the carving and meat/fish station.

Even though Zebra Domes are popular, I adore the tiny fruit tarts (tiny--the size of a quarter).

I like Boma because it's different than anything I can get anywhere else.

For us Boma is a must for breakfast but a no way for dinner because we do not like our non dessert items to taste sweet like dessert They use alot of vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg, and other sweet spices to flavor the meats and side dishes.

I would keep it because there are plenty of "normal" things on the buffet to choose from, especially for kids. My oldest is very picky and Boma is one of his favorite places to eat at Disney .

Ate there last Thursday. There is plenty for even picky eaters. My kids loved the fresh fruit. I'm not an adventurous eater but tried some things, liked some didn't like others. We decided that it was definately something different but that we probably won't make ADRs for it again. It didn't live up to the hype IMO and it wasn't just here, we had a family friend that said it was a must do. Some people love it, others not so much......but you won't know unless you try it.

Boma is worth visiting just to go to AKL. It is beautiful.

Trying to see for yourself. It's a must do for us!

you will NEVER find soup anywhere as gd as their soup-food is wonderful and it is always a must for us. They have a sm kid friendly section.

MY DS who has always been extremely picky, the food s he like re REALLY likes) and Boma is the one place he wants to go back to. I still find that odd but I guess there was enough there for him.

We went there 4 years ago and he still talks about it!

I love Boma, but it sounds like 3 out of 4 members of your party would be happier at Sanaa. I am sure that DS10 can find something. Most WDW restaurants are very good with special requests (such as completely plain meat, sauces on the side, subbing plain mashed potatoes for a more exotic veg, etc). I would expect that to be even more the case at a 'spicier' restaurant like Sanaa.

We've eaten at both Boma and Sanaa, and while Sanaa is very good, we prefer Boma. The food at Sanaa is unique, and the decor is great. I didn't notice what was on the children's menu, but I don't remember very much on the regular menu that a picky eater would enjoy. Boma has an amazing variety of foods, some exotic and some familiar. The soups are wonderful, we love the fresh fruit and salads, and their is a large variety of meats and veggies. Many people mention that everything tastes sweet, but I haven't found that. Cinnamon doesn't have a sweet taste to me, and I enjoy the blends of spices Boma uses. There is plenty for a picky eater, and there is an abundance of foods for a more adventurous eater. The desserts are heavenly for everyone.

You can take a culinary tour of Boma at 4:00 every afternoon and taste some of the foods they serve on the buffet. It's a short tour that is fun and can give you a better idea about the restaurant. It's free, and anyone can go. Just meet outside of the restaurant by 4:00. We're DVC members, and AKL is our home resort. We always eat at Boma for dinner at least once. There are great evening activities at Jambo House....viewing animals through night glasses, the firepit with story time, a children's parade after story time, etc.

I love Boma, I think it's one of the best restaurants on property. But since you don't care for buffets, you're not big eaters, and you have a kid that adores Indian food, it sounds like Sanaa would be the much better fit for your family.

Personally BOMA is my favorite dinner at WDW. I have 3 picky kids and 1 picky husband and they liked it too! There was plenty of "normal" food for them to choose from.

I agree with this poster. It seems like Sanaa might be a better fit for you and your family. The views of the savanna are supposed to be lovely if you get there early enough. And I've always read really great things about the food.

While Boma is a family favorite of ours, it definitely is not for everyone. And other posters are right.. If you do go, try the soups! The soup and the hummus station are my favorite parts of Boma.

Another vote for Sanaa over Boma. Especially for an early dinner or for a lunch, you will have light enough outside to view the animals out on the savannah while you eat. It is a unique experience. Boma does not give you that kind of view.

As far as getting what you want for your DS10, they should let you pay for whatever you want to eat there. If you are on a dining plan, I do not see the problem with receiving a lesser value for your DS10's (adult) dining credit. I recommend the pizza there. They make it fresh with the naan dough, and it is miles better than other kids' pizzas around WDW.

I also like the PP's suggestion of doing the Culinary Tour of Africa at Boma. You get to sample a soup and a dessert from their buffet, which is where I find the best stuff at the Boma buffet. Plus you get a Jiko appetizer, too. I might do this before heading over to dinner at Sanaa. Or, I may have on a previous trip...

Sanaa also has the best bathrooms at WDW; just outside in the hallway. Just a note.

We did both last week and personally I'd choose Cape May.
