Boma Desserts

We are trying Boma's in Oct. and I have read that they have desserts that have alcohol in them. Is the alcohol cooked in the desserts and evaporate when cooked? Do they have plenty of desserts without the alcohol? We will have 2 kids ages 13 and 9. Do they have signs posted that does not allow kids to eat them? I don't want my kids just going up liking the looks of a dessert and getting something they were not suppose to be getting. Say for instance the zebra domes in the pictures that I have seen looks like they would be very good and it probably would be the 1st thing my kids would run to. I don't drink and don't intend to let my kids but I have had food that has had alcohol cooked in them and the alcohol evaporates.

TIA, Danette

I don't know if the alcohol all evaporates off - you can certainly taste it in the zebra domes - but there are plenty of desserts which don't have alcohol - brownies, tarts, bread pudding etc.

first of all, I just have to correct that old wive's tale that just won't go away: the alcohol does not cook off in most foods using alcohol...it takes a very long time at a very high heat to "cook off" the alcohol. Here's a chart from the USDA showing how much alcohol remains...most desserts will be in the top four categories on the chart, since your typical sauce with alcohol has little to no cooking when the alcohol is added. And in many desserts, zebra domes included (Boma), the part of the dessert which gets the alcohol is not cooked at all.

Secondly, all of the desserts with alcohol are labeled as such, so how old are your kids? Are they old enough to read...if so, you can tell them what to look for & what they can't have. If they're not old enough to read, they're technically not old enough to serve themselves at the buffet anyway so you will be with them & can serve appropriate desserts to their plates. Hope that helps. There are plenty of desserts without alcohol...in some cases, the same dessert has both alcohol and non-alcohol version. Specifically, the bread pudding had to bowls of sauce.:thumbsup2

Thanks ... Yes they are old enough to read(13yr and 9yr). I am glad to know that they do have the desserts that have alcohol labeled, so I can let them know and ease my mind that they won't be eating something they shouldn't.

I could taste the alcohol in the desserts.
I do not like the taste of alcohol so thought the zebra domes were disgusting. My daughter didn't like them either.

Not sure how this stands legally in the USA but presumably if children eating them are a problem then like with alcoholic drinks they wouldn't serve them to under 21s and therefore wouldn't have them on a buffet. If you visit most countries e.g. UK for sherry trifle and Italy for tiramisu then you would still allow children to eat the food containing the alcohol.

Personally my children wouldn't touch them with a bargepole out of choice but if there is no law against it and they are on the buffet I would expect anyone who wanted to try them to give it a go. If the law is different I think Disney would be careful to display it.

Just my opinion.
