We have been hearing a lot of great things about Boma, but we have never been. We typically do character meals for our small kids so it could be a departure from the norm for us. Can anyone give us good reasons to make that change?:)

I love Boma. If you want to try similar food though, Tusker House at AK is really good too, and I heard a rumor that at the begining of December that'll be a character meal for lunch, as well as the character breakfast they currently offer. (Best breakfast buffet on property IMO.) But I really like Boma for the soups and desserts. They also always have good fish as well.

I would say only go to Boma if you are an adventurous eater. DH and I LOVE Boma, but we are crazy about ethnic food. Our travelling companions do not like ethnic food, so they pretty much hate Boma and eat from the kids buffet when we go there  . I love the soups, the Bobotie and the salads best. The desserts are just OK IMO. If you are an ethnic food lover, I say you must go to Boma. If not, then don't change your current plans.

possibly not...sounds like you're not inclined to try it :)

I would suggest that trying new things and places expands your knowledge and shows you a range of things you might not otherwise see, do, eat or experience. Personally, I'd try it just to see if I liked it...it's only one meal so your could do character meals for breakfast, lunch and dinner for the rest of your visit. :)

Boma is the only restaurant on the WDW property that my family always makes a point to go to, that is how much we love it! We went again a few weeks ago and I did not have much of an appetite, but when I tasted everything on my plate, it was ALL good. Like, even i was surprised that it was still that good.
I remember thinking to myself: everything on my plate is good. EVERYTHING!

I recommended the place to my friend who is incredibly picky and he came back with rave reviews. I say give it a try! And if you haven't been to Animal Kingdom Lodge, it is a bonus because it is beautiful and you get to see animals! Go and then report back to us! ;)

I'd say Bomas is good w/ small kids. You can visit the animals on the resort & kids tend to love animals. I only had it for breakfast & it was one of the best breakfast buffets I ever had. When I went it was very quiet. This time w/ a baby we chose H&V but I'm on the fence about this one but my baby seems to like Oso so that's why we are sticking w/ it. It depends on what you think really.

we had a sort of grand gathering there between my sister, her family, my parents, and my family. everyone found something on the buffet they enjoyed.

there was salmon, carving station: beef roast, roast chicken, different hot veggies, potatoes, several different soups. i liked the chicken curry soup. it was not spicy nor over powering. many selections of salads. children's buffet with fries, pizza, dessert stations.

the flavors were amazing. by this- i mean my parents were hesitant to try it, it was no more spicy than if you eat at a chinese restaurant, but very flavorful!

We have never been but since reading all the good reviews have added into our dining plan , October 1st for a dinner res. cant wait to try out something different plus check out the animal kingdom lodge!:thumbsup2

Have been to BOMA when it was AWESOME and when it was, not so awesome (however the soups are always awesome). I agree with the "you have to like ethnic foods". The spices are unusual and you have to appreciate that kind of thing.

Buffets are the perfect time to get adventurous in a safe way.;)

Try a little and if you don't like it I'm sure there is at least one thing you can fill up on, even if it's dessert or the kids section. At least you have tried something new. I grew up a picky eater mostly because of being a farm kid I wasnt exposed to a lot. My mother was a great cook but tacos were as exotic as she got. :) I liked taking my daughter to buffets as soon as she started eating. She had to try something new before she could hit the kids table. She us now an adventurous 12 year old eater.

Can't wait for our first trip to Boma in just a few weeks!:cool1:

We were a little leary to give Boma a try, but now it's a restaurant we go to every trip :). There are some unique dishes on the buffet, but there are also regular items as well. Our oldest is picky and Boma is one of his favorite places to eat at Disney ;).

I'll give it a shot...

Do you like beef? Chicken? Salmon? Garden salads? Mashed sweet potatoes? Rice? Pumpkin pie? Then you will find something you like at Boma. We just ate there for the first time in the beginning of August and LOVED it. It's not like they serve antelope there. We did not find the seasonings unusual at all. And there was nothing overly spicy or hot spicy. We were actually surprised at how much of the food turned out to be "unexotic" tasting.

Here is a link to the dining report I did:

Scroll down to Boma. We tried almost everything there. There are pictures and descriptions of everything we ate. Click on the thumbnail pic to enlarge the picture for closeup details. Better to see the sides. The food was amazing...
