Over the past few years Boma has become our favorite WDW restaurant. I'm a bit of a foodie, but DW and DD are strictly meat & potatoes people. We've all enjoyed the offerings at Boma, until last week. The problem for DW and DD came with the absence of the "potatoes with Afritude". DW and DD counted on that side dish as about 50% of the reason for going to Boma. DD commented that the beef wasn't as good as usual and that all of the items she tried seemed like they lacked much flavor/spice. I didn't have any major complaints, but I don't eat the beef or potatoes. But when two out of three are disappointed in the meal, it's not a good sign.

Looks like Boma is off our "must do" list for the time being.

Thanks ! Will be there on Monday. With all the dumbing down of the menus I have decided next year to skip Disney and go on another Non Disney cruise as I'm doing this November.
The new Disney is all about $$ , its sad :confused3:confused3

I saw this thread while searching for Boma info. We're going to AKL next May for 2 nights before our cruise and I wanted to book here. I know I'll be thrilled but I eat anything and always find something I love. My boyfriend is a very picky eater and eats almost exclusively meat and potatoes. I'm happy there is a meat carving station, which he'll love but are there ANY potato based side dishes? The OP of this thread said they took potatoes off the buffet. Are they back, does anyone know?

Boma has a rotating menu. So there are different flavors depending on the day of the week, not neccessarily the time of year. It also could have been a case of an issue isolated to a single day and the potatoes might have been back the next day.

We ate at Boma on Monday night. They had roasted potatoes, they were well seasoned and absolutely delicious! I have never had Potatoes with Afritude so I don't know how they compare.

I don't think this has anything to do with money--I mean, potatoes are pretty cheap.....:confused3

I agree with what others have said, don't take it completely off the list just because there were a few things not there.

Think about a non Disney restaurant that maybe you've gone to several times and have always loved it. Maybe you go one time and it's less than stellar. Will you just forego it and never return?

Very same concept for these Disney restaurants - I think sometimes people have such high expectations because there's so much anticipation leading up to the actual experience. And if it's not up to those expectations, it's such a big let down than if it were a "regular" restaurant.

Even though it's AT Disney, it's still a restaurant and is not going to be perfect.

With that in mind, I can't WAIT til we go to Boma on 5/3 and hopefully will be what we remembered last two times and that it will be a good nite! :)

This sounds like the Potatoes with Afritude. They are roasted potato wedges with some spices maybe just ever so slightly spicy hot.

I'm the OP. DW and DD are extremely picky eaters but they loved the sliced beef and the potatoes. Boma had become our favorite restaurant, but the last time we were there the potatoes were missing, and they said the beef lacked some of the spicy flavor. (Understand that whatever the spices were they were quite mild or DW and DD wouldn't have eaten it). The change in those TWO items changed the whole experience for them. I love all kinds of stuff, so I'm good no matter what. Before I can convince my fam to return to Boma, I'm going to need to be able to guarantee Potatoes with Afritude, and the sliced beef.:)

We were there in February and had an absolutely wonderful dining experience. We're going back in May and already have ADR for Boma on the first night of our stay.

I'm not sure I would classify this situation as "bombshell." Boma offers a huge array of items on the buffet. I wouldn't base my opinion of a restaurant on the absence of one side dish, especially considering it probably is still on the rotating menu.

I am disappointed to hear that you had a bad experience, though. Boma has been one of my favorite Disney restaurants for years, and I have never had a bad meal there for breakfast or dinner. I understand your wife and daughter enjoy the potatoes, but I would give the place another chance if you have enjoyed it consistently in the past. The potatoes will likely return, and everyone will again be happy.

Potatoes with Afritude have never been spicy hot for as long as I can remember, and I've been to Boma since AKL opened back in 2001. Unless the recipe changed from time to time.
