I am allergic to tree nuts, coconut, and scallops.

Last night we decided to dine at Boma.

BEWARE! About half of the dishes had something in it that I couldn't eat.

I was able to fill up, and the server did offer to have them make me something special, which I told him wouldn't be neccesary, but if you have nut allergies, this is probably a place to avoid. Chef Ken was great, and told me NOT to take ANYTHING from the dessert bat for fear of cross contamination. He brought me fresh deserts from out back, which again were very limited. He also brought some sorbet from Jiko, but it was very tart and I didn't care for it.

They did try, and very very nice, but I do'nt think I"ll go there again, just too many risks.

Thanks for the info. Do you happen to know about peanuts? And is it the same situation for breakfast foods?
DS is allergic to peanuts and we were hoping to eat breakfast here.

Sorry Camcolt, I'm not allergic to peanuts, so I don't really know...although I do think that there were some foods with peanuts or peanut oils on the buffet.

CamColt, my son is allergic to peanuts and he has eaten at Boma for both breakfast and dinner. We had no problems with breakfast, but at dinner, all the desserts were pretty much off limits (and my son ate the "kiddie" foods like chicken fingers and mac&cheese so I wasn't too worried). My son didn't try anything out of the ordinary at breakfast, he pretty much stuck to eggs, pancakes, etc. Keep in mind, though, that we have a pretty large comfort zone (I sometimes let him eat "may contain" items like M&Ms) so you might not be as comfortable as we were. Your best bet is to call the restaurant ahead of time and ask very specific questions about their breakfast foods. The only number I have is the "podium phone" (407-938-4733) but I don't know if that can be connected to the chef or not. You can always call WDW-DINE to get the right number. I think with a little advanced planning, your son will be fine at Boma's breakfast, especially if he isn't a very "adventurous" eater. I didn't ask about the more exotic selections because my son wasn't interested in them, so I don't know if they would be safe. Have a good time!!

Thanks for the info, ducklite and CanBeGrumpy.
CBG, DS is the same as yours, not very adventurous at all. In fact, I just got him to eat som broccoli and I almost died! ;)
I know he wouldnt go for anything out of the ordinary. We will call ahead just to check it out if we do end up going there(its not until December, LOL!)
And BTW, DS's allergy isnt severe(so far) so we too allow m&ms and the like. Sometimes I feel guilty abut it, but Im glad to know Im not the only one. ;)

I am also allergic to tree nuts and ate at Boma twice. The first time I didn't get any desserts other than fruit since I was full. The second time I saved room only to find many desserts were labeled "may contain either nuts or alcohol". When I asked the chefs which a particular dessert contained, one said "either one" and then went back to get more desserts. So that was pretty much all the help I got. I guess I could have told the server, but it wasn't that important so I had others in my party try something before I ate it.

Ann,
sorry that you were limited with your menu.

We just ate there last week and the friend I was dining with is a diabetic. They were great. Chef Tony came out and walked her around the food and told her what she could have while he made her a special platter of food. They also made her a sugar free dessert that was very good, she did call ahead for the dessert.

He asked her likes and dislikes, allergies, etc and brought her a platter of salmon and beef tenderloin along with loads of veggies cooked to her specifications (this is what she requested in the food). She is also allergic to smoked foods or foods cooked on a grill with smoke flavoring and he was great. He cooked everything in a pan to avoid that.

I would have definitely asked the chef to make me something based on your specifications. They are very accomodating.

I would be extremely cautious about dining at any buffets if I had food allergies. Cross contamination would be a major problems espically with the large volumes of people and food that is served
