I've seen posted that for Park restaurants, that Disney does not hold out spots for walkups...all tables are filled with ADRs. So walkups only happen if someone cancels or no-shows. What about for Resort restaurants? I've also seen posted that waits could be an hour. I checked into ADRs for our first night we arrive and there is nothing except a 9:45, which will be too late after a long travel day for us. So I was wondering if the option of stopping by and placing our name in and waiting. I don't mind waiting an hour as we could easily spend the time checking out the resort.

Is this idea possible...walkup at BOMA?

Boma has gotten VERY popular. During our past couple of visits, we've seen numerous people turned away. I'd go ahead and make an ADR rather than risk not being able to get a table.

Yes I've been there and made an ADR its the best thing to do because you never know how long a wait could be. And it was busy too. We were also late for our ADR at Boma and I was getting worried but we got in with no problem.

If you stop by and put your name in there are a couple of things that could happen. You could be told they aren't taking walk ups or you could be given a beeper and told how long the wait will be. Your idea of waiting an hour would be very hopeful.

I'd have the fall back plan of ordering room service or going to the Mara instead. The Mara has excellent pizza.

I've seen people walk up to Boma's, AS they open, and get told the wait would be an hour to an hour an a half. They sometimes get seated much quicker than that, but if it's busy.....it can be very minute of that hour and a half. Within 45 mnutes of "opening", I've seen LOTS of people walking up turned away.

Boma's and Jikos are VERY popular...I'd recommend if you want to eat there, get an ADR. Otherwise, you risk being disappointed or, at least, having a VERY long wait.

We were 20 min late for our ADR at BOMA on our arrival day due to a later arrival than anticipated. BOMA was packed and they would not honor our ADR since we were so late, put us on standby and we waited until almost 10:00 pm to get a table after all ADR's had been seated. This was on a Sunday in January, the slowest month of the year. :rotfl:

We saw something very similar at the end of January. We had a 7:15 ADR at Jiko, right next door to Boma. We got our beeper and sat down in the waiting area next to another group (around four adults, if I recall) who were waiting to get into Boma. They did not have an ADR and were given a beeper and told it would be 9:30, 10 p.m., before they would be seated.

These places are hot! I would not count on being able to walk up, and I doubt an hour wait would happen, either. We waited 45 minutes for Jiko even with an ADR.

Hope you enjoy the lovely tastes of Africa!

Thanks for all the responses. As mentioned, I currently have 9:45 ADR and the walkup sounds chancy....so we will continue to try and snag an earlier ADR or make alternative plans. We'll arrive to BC in the afternoon and I thought we wouild check out AKL resort and have dinner. Wouldn't mind doing same at WL and WCC, so we'll scope out that option as well. Lots of great choices, I'm sure we'll find a great spot to dine and absorb Disney on our first evening.

There are places near the Beach Club that don't take ADRs so a walk up with a willingness to wait up to an hour should be very doable.

Neither Beaches & Cream or ESPN Club take ADRs.

Yes, that is certainly a good and wise option. I had wanted to check out AKL and Boma. We will be driving down and will have a car, so checking out AKL is an easy option. Though once I park the car (except that night) I don't think I will use it again. Sit back and let disney do the driving.

Big River Grill also doesn't take reservations so you have three choices right in the Boardwalk area. Also - check out the Captain's Grill at the Yacht Club. It's a good restaurant but it's fairly easy to get a reservation or even walk up.
