Boiled Eggs in the oven??

I just saw online that you can put eggs in the shell, in the oven, at 325 degrees for 30 minutes, take them out and put them in a bowl of ice water and then they practically slide out of the shell. Has anyone on here done that before? I would have thought that the eggs would blow up in the oven. I’m afraid to try it. I don’t want to have to clean the oven. If it does work, why doesn’t it blow up in the oven? Are they good cooked that way? Do they have the same consistency as regular boiled eggs?

I haven't tried it so this may not be helpful, but everything I have always read said they have the right taste/consistency, but they get brown spots. Mainly from touching the pan so some people use cotton balls (yikes), aluminum foil, etc. to keep them propped up.

Love your profile - my other cat looks just like her/him :)

Never done this, but big NO to cotton balls in the oven. Maybe a silicone baking mat under the eggs would prevent brown spots. Just a thought.

I never thought to try it. I've seen silicon molds used for eggs, and silicon is safe for ovens. Maybe poke a tiny hole in the bottom of the egg to prevent eggsplosions?

As mentioned there may be brown/red spots on the shells/egg whites, but they come out, basically, the same.

My issue with it is - this whole procedure takes about 45 minutes. I can boil eggs on the stove and be done within 15-20 minutes.

Don't see any advantage to using the oven, takes longer and shells will likely crack from the heat of the oven making a mess. Put eggs in pan of cold water on the stove. Set to medium high heat so that water boils. Remove from heat and let stand for 15 minutes. I get prefect hard boiled eggs everytime using that method.

This is my method (I cover them for the 15 minutes). Older the eggs the better, brown eggs are a pita to peel. If you peel them still warm it’s so easy (I boil eggs at least once a week)

I just recently made hard boiled eggs in my air fryer no water needed and it works great! 250 degrees for 16 minutes. My daughter loves deviled eggs so I always keep a dozen eggs to age a bit in the fridge to make them easier to peel.
Thanks for posting this - I’m going to give it a try.
Do you have the Air Fryer set on “air fry“ or another option like “bake”?

Airfry, I try to leave a little bit of space between each egg so they cook evenly

Yikes on the cotton balls!!! :scared1:

I use a silicone mat like you said - the kind with ridges so a little air gets under the eggs (and they don't roll around as you're putting them into the oven) -

I haven't noticed that it makes them any easier to peel, but I do like the method as I don't feel I have to stay in the kitchen like I would when boiling them on the stovetop.

They don't explode, and the trick to not having them crack is to take them out of the fridge a little earlier, so they're not so cold when they go into the oven.

I tried once and was not impressed. Same issues with trying to peel as I would get boiling.
