The rest of my family want to do the airboat rides, but i'm scared?? i really don't like gators. but i don't want to sit out. will i be ok? no gators have ever attacked have they? how close do you get to them?

I went on this earlier this year. (1/2 hour ride with a group.) It was a blast. Never saw any 'gators.

i did it this past july

its pretty hard to find gators so our guide took us to see this nesting gator who bit the side of the boat! Our driver also made the boat "hop" on water, which was pretty scary, I thought we would flip! And you do get a bit wet...

We didn't see any gators either, but had a great time. It's something to do once in your life and not what I would call dangerous or scary at all. Holding the baby gators in their office was cool, got an awesome pic of DH and the foot long baby.;)

It is definitely an amazing experience for all ages! The boats are Certified Coast Guard Airboats driven by experienced Master Captains so there is no worry when it comes to safety. There is so much more to see aside from the gators such as turtles, birds and more!!! To make things easy you can order your tickets ahead of time at kgstickets.com or over the phone at 1.877.273.5636. They offer lots of other exciting adventures as well as the more commercial venues and can help you build a new experience for you and your family. Perhaps if you brave the gators you can talk them into lunch with an astronaut at the Kennedy Space Center?

I hope this helps!!!

I hate to sound like a ninny, but wasn't there some bad accident with one of these flipping in the last several years? I may be imagining this!

Joe is a total daredevil and he'd love to do this, but I'm a little intimidated. Maybe I'm trying to invent an excuse not to go.

I've been on an airboat before, in Louisiana, but it was with a research group of National Park employees, and we weren't doing any hot dogging.

I can't imagine they do not follow general safety rules. Our driver/guide was very nice and professional, yet playful too. But I can't imagine them doing anything daangerous, esp when there is quite a mix of people on the boats. You will be surpirsed how many people those boats comfortably seat. I would guess at least a dozen.
You will even be given bulky, padded headphones during the ride to help drown out the boat noise.
I thought about going this weekend, as DH has not done this. But opting for Sea World instead.

I have always felt that most of the airboat ride operators in Orlando have survived mostly because many tourists don't know that they're not really in the Everglades when they're in Central Florida. The Everglades start south of Lake Okeechobee. The best places to hop an airboat and stand a strong chance of seeing alligators will always be west Broward county (Fort Lauderdale) or west Dade (Miami), which include the Everglades proper. Orlando's airboat tours were better thirty years ago, when there was a lot more untouched marshland, but rampant development has squeezed out many of the wilder animals, and most birds are scared away by the boats' incredible noise.
