BOG-lunch-OMG!!!!

Was the turkey sandwich warm in the past? I always ordered the braised pork, but last trip mom and I split the turkey, and it was indeed cold (and not that great). The cupcake was still good, though. :)

Yes it was warm and not warm this time. I tried the braised pork for the first time on our 2nd visit and can't believe I missed out on that the first 2 times, so much better than the sandwiches. And the cupcakes are always good - its what keeps us coming back! (Although dessert after dinner the masters brownie or whatever cake that was on, was horribly hard)

I don't think it's so much a question of preferring a hot or cold sandwich, but that the quality of the meat they were using was chosen specifically because it was a hot sandwich. Served cold, the meat is tough. If they want to serve it cold, they need to use higher quality beef.
I have to have gluten free bread. It isn't going to get any better than it already is. And heating doesn't help it.

But I get where you are coming from.

I ate there pretty close to when it opened up for lunch on a whim one day. That was before you had to get an ADR and just waited in line. We didn't have anything else to do, were hungry so what the heck we said. At the time, we thought it was just o.k and way too expensive. We are used to Disney prices, they really aren't that much higher than anything we get local except the chain places like McDonald's. We didn't think the atmosphere was all that, yes it was cute that the knights in the hallway while you were waiting were talking but it was so loud in there you really had to be listening close to know they were. Yes, the room with the rose was interesting, but again the noise level was so high it wasn't worth it. If I'm paying those prices, you better sit me at a table on my own and wait on me, I'm not getting my own drinks and silver, carrying a tray with them on it and trying to find a table. We pretty much decided it was one and done for us. Then SDMT opened and we thought that might be fun to ride so we did a PPO breakfast, we knew going in it was expensive but my then DIL could eat some food and I knew even she would get full with the pastries. Again, we tried it, again we thought it wasn't worth it, we thought SDMT was cute but not worth paying extra and getting up at the crack of oh he!!!!! no just to ride it. So, nope, not going back there. If we want QS we'll do Pecos Bills, if we want a semi QS, we'll do the Plaza where we can walk up and still get seated and waited on.

The sandwich with the ham and cheese is stilled grilled isn't it?

We tried lunch at BOG twice: once shortly after they began serving it, and another time this past Aug. Hated it both times. Too long a wait, felt disorganized, food quality really low -- just a waste all around. We still like dinner there but won't waste the time or money there on lunch again unless something changes DRASTICALLY (which I don't anticipate).

Well unless you count the fact that you can now buy a beer with lunch. That's pretty drastic by some folks accounting

Well I talked to my son, the one who preordered the beef sandwich and he said he has no desire to order a cold cut. He eats cold cuts everyday at work since he works in a sandwich shop, so we are going to cancel our reservation. My guys have no desire to see the castle. I think we might just leave the park for lunch and go to the Poly for lunch.

Personally, I feel that any meal other than dinner at BOG is just not worth the money. I also think the cupcakes are totally overrated. Dinner is no more expensive there than at other TS restaurant and the food is pretty good. If I am going to spend $24 for a doughnut or $17 for a cold sandwich I'd much rather pay the $26 for chicken or $28 for pork for dinner. I think the breakfast and lunch prices have really gotten out of hand and are a complete money grab. I know it is considered difficult to get dinner ADR's but honestly we have had no problem getting one every year since it has opened and some trips twice. If I could not have dinner there I would not bother.

One of the tings with BOG is that it has one of the heaviest uses of DDP of any eatery on property (according to a CM at BOG). That makes Disney inflate the prices to conflate value with using a credit there and value to the DDP as a whole.

Or conversely, the restaurant is booked more heavily by DDP people because it is so expensive off of the plan. I don't know what is the root cause of the BOG prices, (or Le Cellier and any number of wicked expensive restaurants) but I do know that as a CS restaurant, I do not have to order an entire meal there. If I wanted one though, I would only buy it if I was using a CS credit.

I gave up trying to figure out what is the driver behind the costs of food, and the consolidation of menu items offered in WDW restaurants a long time ago, and which is being tailored to what: The DDP cost to restaurant prices, or restaurant prices to dining plan cost and usage. Personally, I think it is a bit of both: behind the scenes number crunchers finding greater savings buying mass orders and production, and restaurants adapting to the DDP reimbursement.

Back when we were regular onsite guests and took advantage of the DDP (usually "free") I didn't really bat an eye at the prices because the DDP covered it. I do remember saying often on these boards "Well it wasn't bad, but I wouldn't want to pay out of pocket for it". Chef Mickeys comes to mind specifically. Now that we don't use the DDP there is pretty much ZERO chance that I will pay the inflated prices at many if not most Disney restaurants.
