BOG breakfast for Mine train warning! Early ride not guaranteed

Nobody is going around the "system". On most days Disney is letting pre-RD breakfast eaters onto 7DMT before the RD crowd shows up. That's the "system". If Disney didn't want them to do this, they would change the "system" and not open the ride. So your beef is basically with Disney, not the people who are getting on the ride that Disney has opened for them.

Plus many of us chose pre-park breakfasts at BOG because a) we wanted to eat there b) we don't like wasting our limited park time on meals and choose to do pre-park meals and c) it's a perk to be there before most others but not a must nor is it something I feel entitled to. We aren't doing anything wrong by eating early, we aren't taking anything away from any other guests by eating early so I'm not sure why people get all huffy about it.

I can't fathom why anyone cares. It costs no one anything. The rope drop people aren't being held back- it doesn't slow their ability to get on the ride at all. It's just a nice little extra perk ( dare I say pixie dusting) that they're allowing for the moment.

And if the only reason one booked the meal was for the chance to ride early, so what? It's not something I would do, but if someone else thinks an extra ride is worth it, none of my business. I can see where some might not like the idea of intentionally booking and then not showing and paying the penalty- but I'm guessing those are so few and far between that it just doesn't matter.

More likely, all of any increase in menu pricing goes to increased food and operating costs for the restaurant.

On the first point, it's all about expectations. If the park is running a ride before the rope drops, then the expectation is set that those dining early will get an opportunity to ride.

On the second point, while the restaurant makes microeconomic decisions that effect their P&L, broader park decision-making regarding ride staffing very likely takes this (and the other breakfast restaurant revenue) into account. Otherwise certain rides would not open early. Disney knows what they are doing here.

It's not easy to write a post that says "I want to vent and get some sympathy and ideas even though I know that Disney makes the rules and is allowed to change them, but I'm not even sure if this was official Disney or some CM stepping out of line or misunderstanding the rules." Or at least not easy to write it in a way that succeeds at getting that sympathy.

So people do their best to write "this is what happened and I'm frustrated, disappointed, maybe even angry" and then other people pounce on them, and instead of saying "Yeah, it's rough and unfortunate, even though technically Disney is within their rights I'd be mad too" they say "technically Disney is within their rights which means you had no right that to expect that things would operate exactly they've been operating for the last six months, and therefore it's all your fault for feeling entitled even though this forum is full of reports of other people achieving the exact thing you'd hope to achieve."

Now I've read every single post in this thread, but in some cases it was several months ago. So maybe there are some posts where people really do act entitled. And perhaps I was one of the ones who criticized the entitlement; I don't remember what I wrote here previously. But I've been learning the social dynamics of this forum, and though I'm sure I'll continue to make mistakes in the future, I've figured out that it's real easy to be critical and not at all easy to be supportive.

There is definitely a contingent here that Disney can do no wrong. Write about how much FP+ has had a negative impact on your vacation (which it did) and then say you wont be going back for awhile ( which I haven't) and invariably someone will say "Good, more room for me."

I'll just add that on our trip last week, we had an 8am ressie at BOG, left the restaurant at 8:40, got in two rides before the masses arrived, and very much enjoyed our experience.

Thank you Opie100 and Natenapril! Your posts are encouraging and useful updates to a thread started months ago. While it seems some CMs may do things differently than others (and still may) it is nice to know what has happened recently.

I will take the bait. I DID book the PPO BOG because I hope to get a SDMT ride in before the masses arrive. That was my primary reason. We are on the DP, so cost isn't a factor. If we don't get to ride, I won't stomp my feet & whine, we will just move on. But it certainly is the hope!

Us too. We're not on the dining plan, but we're staying off site and the ride was not available for FP. We enjoy the early morning walk through the park with so few others, and we've never been in BOG, so that experience is part of the deal, but we really like the extra jump on crowds and hope to get in a walk-on ride!

I'm also hoping for an early ride. We had breakfast at BOG last August and really enjoyed it. My almost 4-year-old is very small for her age and couldn't ride the mine train then. Last week at a doctor's appointment, she measured 37.6 inches, so with luck and shoes, she'll be able to ride this time.

I'd be livid too! Disney can't be ignorant of the fact that people often do pre-park opening ADRs just to get an edge on the crowds.

Between this report and the ridiculous rope drop procedure happening at AK, I am just shaking my head.

What's happening at AK? Sorry if it's old news, been under a rock lately.

I think it just comes down to this. It is possible, even probable, that you will get an early ride on SDMT with an ADR at BOG. However, there is also a number of reasons that they may not be allowing it on any given day. So just remember that there is a chance that it may not happen and have realistic expectations. Just like everything at Disney and in life.

For anyone interested, here is my experience. Had an 8:10 BOG reservation yesterday January 11th for my husband and I. (Got the reservation way later than 180 days) We got to our bus stop about 7 and arrived at the check in line about 7:30. We were let into MK around 7:45. We stopped for two photopass photos and had to wait in a short line for each. We made it to BOG at about 7:55 and everyone was let in right at 8. We preordered one cronut to share. We got to our table around 8:10, meal came out around 8:15. We were the first ones done eating and out of BOG at 8:30. A couple CMs standing right by SDMT and said once they got the word we could come over to ride. Three other people came over and formed an official line so we were 4th and 5th in line. We were taken through the fp line and was on the first ride of the day by 8:40. Got off the ride and back through fp line for a second ride. Was hoping for a 3rd but when we were coming off the ride we could see the rope drop crowd right at the ride entrance and that was at 8:50. We went over to Peter Pan which was a walk on and was off that by 9:01. At 9:01 SDMT was at a 45 minute wait already. Hope this helped someone!

That is why I'm booking breakfast at BOG! Mine Coaster AND Peter Pan, done by 9:10, without need for evening using fastpasses! It's my hope anyway.

DH and I ate at BOG last week; we were done by 8:40 or so. There was a small line which they started allowing on soon after and my husband got in two rides before the masses came.

Honestly, I made my early BOG ADR so we could get photopass photos on main street with thinner crowds. I'm basing that on a previous trip with an early CRT ADR. It is the ONLY reason I would bother getting a breakfast ADR at MK. So, if I'm made to go through some sort of tunnel (I read that it happened to someone early in this thread) instead of walking down main street in some attempt at "fairness" to the RD crowd, I would shout that it's unfair because I've previously been allowed to do it by Disney without some sort of "official" rule or policy change being publicized. If you were able to do it on one trip, you should be able to do it on another. If they want to do something to address the use of breakfast ADRs to obtain perceived "advantages" over RD crowds, then they need to make them official and apply them consistently. If not, people will complain and IMO, they have every right to.
