Bode Miller.....thoughts? (olympic skier)some spoilers, read at own risk...

Because many people don't listen or in this case read. I've been wondering if he had a few beers to unwind or if he was falling down drunk. I can't find an answer to that either.

Yes, many people don't read. People keep arguing that he's not a role model, when I never said he was one. I said I think he's an idiot. I thought so before this race, and this didn't help!!

But it is hard to have these conversations when people are getting so hot under the collar about a skier they don't know. :)

My whole point was that I don't think people should go out late/drinking the night before a big event. Or if they do, they better win. :teeth:

Just because people disagree doesn't mean they are hot and bothered. I disagree with many. You seem to be the one who insists on making mountains out of molehills, and trolling the thread. Whatever trips your trigger...

Oddly, I thought I was completely anti-Bode before the Olympics. I thought he was just making excuses with the drinking/not being in the Olympic spirit talk before going to Italy. You know, having excuses in place for if he didn't win...

However, I am so disappointed in Michelle Kwan who worked unusual angles to make sure she got to the Olympics, then backed out because she thought she might lose. I have to hand it to Bode--even though he's in the spotlight and has a ton of pressure and criticism all over him, he's still there and competing. I know nothing about skiiing, but I'll believe those of you who say he wasn't favored to win and was gracious about losing, and I'll say good for him. I can't imagine the pressure of having endorsements, media frenzy and people bashing you and still going out there and trying. Plus, I'm so sick of how many athletes take steroids and performance enhancers that I have to say I can hardly judge a guy for doing something that could be a detriment to his performance.

As an aside, if it was me I would have held off from the partying until AFTER my events, but that's just me and I'd never make an Olympics for anything so what do I know?

I think typing in all caps is hot and bothered, but that's just me. :teeth:

And I'm not a troll, just answering posts and having some fun. I guess I misunderstood the purpose of this board.

No fun, people, no fun!!

I'm not hot and bothered either but I still disagree with those who want to police Bode's activities.

It looks like a beer or two is not too bad after all :

"Miller, the 2002 Olympic silver medalist in the event and overall World Cup champion, was the fastest in 1 minute, 38.36 on a course slightly shortened from the one on which he finished a disappointing fifth in Sunday's downhill."

Ack no spoilers. :badpc: I don't want to know about the combined event until I hopefully watch it tonight.

Sorry !

I watchet it this morning with breakfast , before going to work ( did not see Bode ) Here in Canada , It is olympics , live , as it happens !

The opening ceremonies were shown a two in the afternoon ( with a replay in prime time). I feel it is the only way to watch the olympics. It is no fun to watch it knowing how it ends ( like watching the Superbowl when you know who wins !)

Yeah well NBC sucks and saves the good stuff for Prime Time. I don't think we have seen one live thing yet. :badpc:

Your cable company does not carry the CBC or Radio-Canada ? I know they are available in Florida sometimes.

Nope, we don't get either of those.

I just read the websites for news during the day, and decide if I want to watch an event at night. :)

I think it is extremely disrespectful to his teammates, his country, and even himself to go out drinking the night before an Olympic competition.
Why? I don't see at all how he disrespected them.
IMHO, it’s high time he grows up and acts his age.
Last I checked, Bode's age was "over 21."
To me it’s just a shame that he lacks the maturity/self discipline to prepare properly for an Olympic event.
Got the slightest bit of evidence he did't prepare properly?

Spoiler (and the title of the posts says spoiler, read at your own risk):

I heard just now on the radio that Bode straddled a gate in the slalom portion of the combined event so he is disqualified, and out of that race.

Have you people ever heard of spoiler warnings??!??!! I mean yeah, chances are I would have heard somewhere prior to the broadcast tonight. Heck it will probably be the thing they lead with, but come on, SPOILER ALERTS, please. I guess it really doesn't matter now, does it. UGH. :badpc:

Edited to add: This was meant tongue-in-cheek. If I really cared I wouldn't keep reading the thread. :thumbsup2

Usually I agree, but I have to side with the folks watching live on this one.

Maybe there should be a thread so people can discuss things as they happen and another for people waiting for NBC.

As somebody who isn't watching any of NBC's stuff, I want to know when it happens.
