Has anyone from the east coast of America bought furniture from Bobs Discount Furniture.

A couple of questions:

1. Hows the quality of the items?

2. How good is the delivery(Time, Willing to bend backwards for you)?

3. Are the sales people pushy?

4. Is the furniture great for the discount you are getting?

Bump! I've wondered this myself!

I bought two bedroom sets from them. the first was beautiful but pressboard. Held up pretty well for a few years but after about 5 years the contact paper wood began to peel off. Paid about $700 for it and sold it at a tag sale for $100.
the 2nd bedroom set was real wood, I learned my lesson. It is wonderful and made really well. Nice strong bed, dovetail joints in the dressers.
Delivery was quick, I think I bought on a weekend and had the furniture in two days.
I always hate salespeople on commission. When I walk in I tell them right away I am just looking and I am not buying today. Bob's is pretty good about that. they have salespeople at the door and they grab you as soon as you come in. If you are just looking no one follows you around. When I find something I want I go back and get the person who is next in line to help someone.
Make sure to check out the coffee/snack area. Great warm cookies and a few different flavored coffees. My kids used to love the penny candies, there were about 10 different kinds. They filled their pockets for the ride home. I hear they have ice cream now too. Almost makes me want to buy some new furniture.

How are their couches?

I went in there while looking for bedroom futniture for my daughter and I was not impressed with the quality. The dresser drawers on every set I looked at were very flimsy. You know how you can pull a drawer out and it just feels very lights and wobbly- well that is how they were. I did buy an end table there to just hold us over while I looked for a set that I really liked and it was pretty good.

We bought 3 bedrooms sets there. Mine is fine, but the kids are press board and 2 of the drawer faces completely broke off, despite my DH screwing them back on.

My pub table chair support broke very easily.

My MIL had a problem with her sectional couch staying together.

It is a discount store afterall, its not the best quality. But affordable when you need something now.

They had a sale on recliners so I went to look. The arms of the recliners on the show room floor were already showing wear. I bought a leather Lazy Boy for about the same price. Have you looked at local furniture stores and then looked 'on line" at some of the North Carolina outlets? You can order exactly what you want in any brand and have it delivered to your door with big savings.

I'm on my second set of living room furniture from Bob's, and my opinion is that you get what you pay for. I've had this set for 4 years and it has runs in the fabric (which started happening within the first year), and one of the wood supports in the ottoman is broken. It's also starting to pull apart at some of the seams on the cushions. However, since I paid $999 for a couch, love seat, chair, and ottoman, I'm pretty happy with it. I have young children and I didn't want to buy top of the line furniture and worry about it constantly.

I didn't find the salespeople to be pushy, and I'm not sure about the delivery because I picked mine up.

It's not the best quality, but if you are looking for something inexpensive, it's okay. We bought our guest bedroom set there and it's fine.

They had a problem a couple of years ago with selling mattresses with bedbugs. One of our friends had this happen. Yuck. I don't remember if they were re-selling mattresses or whether the bedbugs came in on some shipment or something...I wouldn't buy something from them for that reason! JMHO!

Exactly, you get what you pay for. Bob's doesn't sell qualilty furniture at cheap prices, they sell cheap furniture.

1. I love my bed. It's this goregous gothic looking brass frame bed. I had literally dreamed of having such a bed since I was teen. I finally got it 3 years ago. Still looks great and the mattress etc. are the most comfy I have ever had and they weren't even the most high end ones.

2. These guys were amazing. Let me explain. I live in a weird second floor apt. First off, they didn't think it was going to fit but they were willing to break their rules and hoist it over a balcony for me. I was freaking out that day because it was the day my dog (RIP) went into the hospital for surgery that we knew was tricky. :( I was a WRECK and freaking out on these guys and they just calmly did everything they could to get the bed set up. I felt sooo bad. They probably thought I was crazy. They

3. Not at all. I told them I'd rather be left alone to think about what I wanted and they did not speak to me again until I went and found them. Occasionally a person who did not know I requested this would ask if I needed help but that was all.

4. I really like what I got.

I can only speak for my own experience, but I would buy there again for sure. Also one of my friends bought her couch and loveseat there 8 years ago and it still looks pretty good.

This was the one in Salem, NH, by the way.

Good choice of words. 12 years ago I bought an Ethan Allen sectional for the family room for our family of six. We use it every day. The dogs sit on it. It is still in a acceptable condition. Does it look brand new? No, but it is a light stone color, doesn't sag, no tears or runs in the fabric and has held up very well. My BIL and SIL have gone through 3 cheaper sets in the same time period and have spent more in total.

A couple of questions:

1. Hows the quality of the items? So far so good

2. How good is the delivery(Time, Willing to bend backwards for you)? We got ours in three days. The delivery guys were great.

3. Are the sales people pushy? Nope, although they may be now with this economy

4. Is the furniture great for the discount you are getting? It serves it's purpose

We have a sectional couch and coffee table from Bob's we bought 2 years ago.

We built a theater room in our basement, and rather than go for theater chairs, we opted for a sectional where most of the chairs recline. I couldn't see spending the money on theater chairs at that moment after we spent a chunk of change on a theater system and the construction of the room. Also we have three dogs, and now a one year old, and they are not exactly easy on furniture. ;) We happened to visit Bob's, saw that particular sectional, and the price was right.

The couch is half leather and half microfiber. So far it cleans up well. The coffee table is cool. It lifts up to move closer to you so you don't have to bend over to get your snacks or drinks. :thumbsup2

Currently I have Berkline couches in my living room, and to me they are the most comfortable in the world. However they were expensive, so as a PP stated, you get what you pay for. The Bob's couch can't compare in comfort, though. Good luck!

I have a policy not to ever (again) buy furniture from a store with the word discount in their name. Its a synonym for poor quality but they can't say that because they won't get any business. Sorry, I have had some horrible experiences with "discount" furniture.

I have never purchased from Bob's but I would still be very skeptical of quality, unless they sold name brands at a discount.

We got DD's sleigh bed there. When it was delivered I noticed the side board was defective so I requested that it be replaced. Two fellows showed up a few days later with a replacement, the one was drunk....yes DRUNK at about 3:30 in the afternoon! DH is a police officer in the town where we live and was on duty at the time. He swung by to check on the delivery and was not at all pleased. We told Bob's about it, but they didn't seem the least bit interested. DH checked that the other fellow had a license and let them go on there way after making sure the drunk one wouldn't be driving. I doubt we'd buy from them again.

We find their TV commercials SO annoying, that DH and I have vowed not to buy from them. I've been in one a couple of times, and was not impressed by the quality of what we looked, nor at the salesman who literally stalked us throughout the store, even though we had told him we were just looking, and would go find him if we had any questions.

I bought a leather living room set (couch, two chairs, two ottomans).

1. We bought it a year ago and it still looks new

2. Had it delivered in about two days (everything was in stock).

3. No

4. We paid about 1/2 of what we would have paid elsewhere, so I'm happy with it.
