Bobbing for apples

Is this disgusting to you? I just realized how gross this is by watching our cub scouts do it last year. (yeah, it takes me awhile to catch on ) I am watching these boys dip their faces -some with make up- into this tub of water, and water is dripping out of their mouths and their noses , and off of their hair.....and I stop my DS's before they get up to their turn. When I point out why, they have no problem backing away. They thought it was pretty gross, too.

Do you let your kiddos bob for apples?

Yes, I DO swim in a public pool, I don't open my mouth in the water, and the pool is a whole lot bigger than the apple tub!

Not for me....I have a huge mouth and can snag a whole apple in one bite.

How ironic.. I was thinking about this long-standing Halloween tradition just last night and wondering how the younger DISer's (younger than me at 59 ) feel about this - espeically in light of how germ phobia is sweeping the country..

I did it as a kid - my kids did it as kids - but I'm betting quite a few people don't do it nowadays..

Bobbing for apples totally grosses me out. I remember doing it as a kid and just not being into it. I would do everything I could to go first!

Thinking about it more, I think this is super sanitary compared to "suck blow" the game you played with quarters....

The only way I allow my children to participate in bobbing for apples is if they go first!! Just teasing. I think it's GROSS!

I did it as a kid, until I was too vain to get my hair wet. But I guess watching a bunch of snotty nosed boys do it really drove it home to me. I'm not a germophobe, but I swear I could see the snot and spit coming out of their mouths and going down into that tub. And since the tub isn't so big, it's really concentrated when you get down to cub scout #25...the water gets kinda thick, if you know what I mean...

Lara, I would have NEVER thought you had a big mouth..you are so quiet and demure...

I know I'm going to regret this..but what the heck is "suck blow"?

Personally I wouldn't do it now - but that's because I'm an adult and I actually "think" about spit and stuff.. LOL

suck blow...you took a quarter and sucked in air pressure to hold it on your mouth...you then went to the next person who was in the circle and they sucked while you blew to transfer the quarter to their mouth...they turned to the next player...and so on and so on...you went boy girl boy girl of course

BTW...I'm sweet and demure damn it...I think you were sarcastic when you said that!!!

My 6th grade girl scout troop was planning this for our girl scout halloween party soon, but I had a scout offer the suggestion of using feet instead of their mouths. I thought that sounded like a much better idea.
