I have just returned from a 6 day trip to the World, and have to tell you that every time I go, it just keeps getting better and better.

Each trip seems to unlock a new surprise, a new joy, and a new piece of magic. This trip we decided that we would become DVC members, and are excited to make that investment in the beginning of 2011. One of the catalysts for our decision? Bob, our waiter at Whispering Canyon Cafe on Wednesday October 6, 2010 at 8:15 PM.

If you don't mind- a little background to help explain. Last year, my entire family decided that 2010 would be the year for an entire family vacation to Disney. It would include the 6 people in my family, my brother and his wife and 2 children, my sister and her boyfriend, my husband's parents from California, and my parents. That makes 16 of us! It was a dream come true, and plans went in to full swing. 20 emails a day went around choosing where to eat, the best place to watch Wishes, what our theme would be for our costumes for the Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party, and on and on. We also were thrilled with the Disney Give a Day, Get a Day program, and all 16 of us found an organization that touched our heart, and volunteered with them. In the meantime, my Mom was in the fight of her life- battling Kidney Failure, and was told she would never recieve a life saving kidney transplant. Despite her illness she was determined to experience Disney World with her children and grandchildren.

The month before our trip, everything was falling into place. Costumes were made, hotel was reserved, ADR's were booked. And my mom recieved the call of her life- She was being tested for a potential donor kidney. Dreams came true on September 1 when my Mom recieved her new lease on life, a new kidney. Of course, that was only one month away from our vacation, and her and my dad knew they had to miss it. It was devestating for them. Although the kidney was the best thing in the world for her, missing this first family vacation was really hard for them. Additionally, the kids were devestated. The thought of having "Nana & Papa" at Disney World with them was so exciting, it was really hard for them to realize that wasn't going to happen.

During the trip, there were many times it affected each of us not having our parents there. The children got sad watching Nana's favorite parade, The Main Street Electrical Parade, knowing she wasn't there. Soarin' was a bittersweet experience for one of the kids, as that was her & Papa's special ride together. Each day was magical & special as Disney always is, but a little sad not to have the Grandparents there with us.

Our last night we ate dinner at the Whispering Canyon Cafe. It was late, we were tired, and we had done marathon days at the parks for the previous 5 days! We were exhausted, but there to celebrate my son's 9th birthday. We were also wearing the "I'm Celebrating" buttons, and had written on them "Nana's New Kidney". And we know we hit the Disney jackpot by having Bob as our waiter. Bob played with my son, wished him a very Happy Birthday, made sure we had what we needed when the cake I had ordered arrived, and was just delightful while balancing a 14 top table (not an easy feat!!). But what topped it all off is when Bob had us call my mom on our cell phone. He made an announcement to the Dining Room that Mom was supposed to be there, but she was recovering after recieving a new kidney, and had the entire Dining Room say "Wish you were here, Mom, Get well soon!!" That moment will be locked in our memories forever. Bob went above and beyond any reasonable expectation, and we are so grateful for his thoughtfulness.

(Yes, I did fill out a compliment card AND sent an email to guest communications :))
