We are planning on having dinner at Boatwright's on my son's birthday(May5). What is everyone's opinion of the food, service, and atmosphere? Do we need to tell them at check in that it is my son's birthday?
Thanks
Darryl

You will get differing opinions on this, like all restaurants. Personally, we didn't care for it. We went two years ago and it was the worse meal of the trip. We waited over 40 minutes for our table, the host was rude, the waitress was horrible and the food was blah (I sent my steak back twice and they still didn't get it right). It ws the only restaurant that did nothing for my birthday (not that I cared...at my age, I would prefer to forget my birthday, but it was odd they were the only ones who did not acknowledge it).

Wow! That sounds terrible. I hope we have a better experience when we go. Maybe they have improved over the last two years. We may just order our own cake for my son so we will not be expecting anything from the restaurant.

We went in June 08, Party of 10. We enjoyed it. It wasn't anything spectacular, but it wasn't horrible by no means. As far as your son's birthday, I would want to take him somewhere, where they would make a big deal about it. HAVE A WONDERFUL TRIP!!

I had a reservation at Boatwright's (we're staying at POFQ) and we cancelled it based on the reviews here.

If it's all you can get for your son's b-day, then I understand. But there are so many amazing and fun restaurants that have awesome atmosphere. I just feel like for a birthday dinner, you should go to an amazing place, not a mediocre restaurant.

But this is just MHO.

I have had both fantastic dining experiences and not so good ones at Boatwrights. In January, 2008, my DH, DS and I had our best dining experience that week at Boatwrights......server was probably the best we had ever had.....I can't believe his name escapes me right now......he was an older gentleman who obviously had been a waiter for a good number of years and was absolutely the best. The food that night was also excellent.......all 3 of us felt our meal was probably the best we had during that trip.....and we had eaten at Narcoosees, Yachtsman, and Artist Point during the few days before this meal. However, that said........two trips before our January, 2008 trip.....back in October, 2006.....service at Boatwrights for breakfast was horrible.......we were with friends, the meal was cold, eggs were way overdone, french toast was hard, we waited forever for service and then, to top it all off, the server spilled an ENTIRE pitcher of oj on our friend.......soaking her in sticky oj......it was awful. So.......my point is.......you can have absolutely awful food and service at a restaurant and then have absolutely wonderful food and service at the same restaurant.......I truly believe the management of the place has a tremendous impact on what happens on a day to day basis, so, I guess it's the luck of the draw at the time.............
