We are staying at POR next august and had not planned on being on teh dining plan but now w/ free dining we are thinking of doing the Free Dining special but we want some flexibility for some meals....Are we able to typically walk into boatwrights without a ADR?

Depends on what time you're going. We stay at POR every year and have been doing free dining (in Sept) since they started offering it. We ate there once with an ADR and had to wait for a table. Other times I've seen it almost empty at odd hours.

If you're going for peak time dining or especially breakfast then yes, make an ADR to be safe.

We tried to walk up on our arrival day once at 7:45-ish for dinner & were told it'd be a two hour wait. That was a lesson learned. We ended up catching the boat to DTD & ate at Ragland Road.

you should book the ADr and then cancel if need be. Boatwrights does get busy....a definite cutback in staff IMHO. Just returned wait was long if no adr, and a typical wait (friends experience) with the adr.

Great Resort by the way!!

I would definitely make an ADR. We went in September 2007 and with our ADR we still waited over 45 minutes for our table.

Do yourself a favor and make an ADR. A lot of times people come over on the water taxi from DTD to eat there and it can get crowded at times for dinner.
