Boat to SSR from DTD

We are looking at purchasing at SSR and I have research these forums for 6 months and we will be going to WDW next week. If we are at DTD can we take the boat to SSR even though we are not staying there? Due they check anything before you get on the boat. We just want to walk around and look at things. Also might stop by the preview center even though we do not have an appt. Do not want to take 3 hours out of our vacation as we will be going the resale route if we buy. DW does not want to buy without looking at the place. If we can get on the boat about how often do they go back and forth?

Yes, you can ride the boat. They run (I think) every half-hour during the day, and every 15 minuted in the evening. You can ride the same boat up to OKW to look around, and maybe have a nice meal at Olivia's.

There is also bus service to SSR from Downtown Disney and a walking path. Believe SSR is about a 10 minute walk from the MarketPlace.

I know exactly what you are saying because I was in the same position a couple years ago.

I wanted to be able to check out SSR without having to go through a tour. I like to be able to see things on my own without having someone over my shoulder. You will have no problem doing an informal tour of SSR, and yes, you can take the boat there without I.D.

Also, I think between 5-7 p.m. you can see the SSR and AKV models during the open house period. Very worthwhile if you are considering buying, and you won't have a guide to deal with. And speaking of the guided tour, I ultimately took it, and it was informative and low-pressure. And it only took about an hour.

We were there in Sept and every night from 5 - 7 they have rooms open at the Springs, right across from the pool. Also they have an Animal Kingdom room set up there to view. It was not high pressure although we do own there we wanted to see the three bedroom, it's gorgeous. I highly recommend going over and looking. The boat will put you in the area of the rooms and the walk from DTD will show you some of the Congress Park area.

It's a very short 5 minute walk from DTD(Marketplace bus stop) to SSR. I personally didn't take the "tour"(miraculously my DH surprised me with our DVC), however my girlfriend took the tour, said there was NO pressure and she received 5 fast pass coupons for going!!! It was early in the morning, she didn't mind at all. Best of luck to you!
