Where's the best place to do a boat rental in Disney World? We are staying at the Boardwalk and I know you can do it across the way at the Yacht Club. Wondering if we should do it here, or if it's better "sailing" somewhere else.

Thanks!

Best place is from any of the marinas at the resorts that are near MK:
Poly
Contemporary
Grand Floridian
Wilderness Lodge
Ft. Wilderness

Much larger areas to navigate (two large lakes)
and a great diversity of views:
All of the beautiful resorts, lots of green area and islands, and the MK.

Hey Robo, unrelated question but is the old River Country somewhere in this aerial? I know it was by Fort Wilderness, but I've always been curious where. TIA!

Yup.
It's to the left of my "7" on the map, at the lake's edge.

Here are some much closer shots of (what's left of) River Country.

cool, thanks for sharing!

i would love to take my kids on a boat tour midday to cruise around the lakes, but have zero boating experience? Is it easy for first timers for a pontoon style boat. My son would love to see where river county and discovery island used to be.

Thanks, Robo! Your detailed info is so much appreciated.

Do prices vary by location? I'm thinking that the MK area will be more expensive as there's more to see? How much time would you allot to experience the whole lagoon and lake?

I don't know that we will have enough time to do it. I thought of this more as an arrival or departure day activity and that's why I'm considering doing it at Crescent Lake.

The Wilderness Lodge dock is closed due to DVC construction so you cannot rent a boat there. It is scheduled to be closed thru sometime next year. My husband actually works recreation / boat rentals so I guarantee this info is accurate.

3. How much time would you allot to experience the whole lagoon and lake?

1. Nope.
2. No difference in pricing.
3. 1-1.5-2 hours.

You pay for the time used after you return the boat, so you can decide during the cruise how much time you'd like to spend.

I looked for a price on line but did not find one. Anyone know what boat rentals run?

Also the two person boats say a limit of 320 pounds. That not very much and no two people in my family would make that limit. Anyone know anything about this?

Thanks
John

The weight limit is appropriate for the small craft.

Actually, most guests rent a Sea Raycer for EACH person, so the weight limit is not often a problem.

All the guest-rental boats at WDW are relatively slow.
They are all regulated that way.
But if you are PILOTING the Sea Raycers, they are loud and FEEL fast.
So yes, they are fun... but you won't be beating any speed records.

The fastest Raycers are from the marinas that I mentioned earlier... from the MK area resorts.

From HERE. (As of Jan. 2015, so today's prices might be higher.)
Canoes/Kayaks — $6.50 per 1/2 hour; $11 per hour
Sea Raycer by Sea Ray –$32 per 1/2 hour; $45 per hour
Pedal boat — *$6.93 per 1/2 hour
12′ Sailboat — *$21.30 per hour
21′ SunTracker Pontoon — $45 per 1/2 hour (up to 8 people)

They will give you instruction but I would recommend a Boston whaler over the pontoon boats if you fit 6 people
Easier to control and more manageable boat
All the boats are 9.9 hp so you don't need a fl boaters license

Thanks JMKJR.... I was leaning toward a Boston Whaler. I appreciate the advice.

They are very used to people who don't boat. The cm at the dock was very suprised by how I came into dock. He said they get a lot of people who don't know much or anything about boats

Does anyone know if you can do a one way rental? For example, rent one at Contemporary and drop off at Ft Wilderness?

I'm anyone.

One-way rentals are not allowed.
The boats' paint schemes are even color-coded to be associated to each different resort.
