We'll be staying at the Poly from Aug 12 - 23, and I was just wondering about the logistics of taking the small boat from the Poly to MK? Are the lines long? Is it preferable to the monorail? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

We stayed at the Poly 2 years ago and took the boat several times to the MK. There were never any lines. It was a great way to cool off too. Sometimes we just rode the boat and went straight back without getting off at the park. It's great. The boat ramp is by where you can rent the water mice. It is not ECV or wheelchair friendly, though, as it is a smaller type boat.
Enjoy your trip!!

For most guests, the boat is the fastest way to the MK. It takes about the same amount of time as the monorail, but it is closer to the resort rooms. Coming back, it is slightly faster to take the monorail because the boat docks at the GF first. If there is a long wait for the monorail, bypass it and take the boat.

We've stayed at Poly three times over the last 4-5 years. We've never had a wait for the boat launch to MK. In terms of convenience, it will depend on your long house location. You can catch the launch, the Poly monorail station or TTC, whichever is closest to your longhouse.

We pretty consistently ended up taking the launch back to the resort as a nice way to relax after the hecticness at the parks. Also, if you time it right, it's pretty cool watching the fireworks from the launch.

Use them both, and see which works better for you.
I preferred the boat, as did my younger daughter (3). She liked the wind in her hair, and I liked being outside. We would actually just go for a ride on the boat, and take multiple trips around the lake without getting off.
My wife and older daughter (6) preferred the monorail. My older daugther liked going through the Contemporary.

Only problem for us was that you had to fold up the stroller for the boat.
We never had a line-from Poly, MK, or GF. It was great to be on the boat for the Electric Water Pageant.

There really wasn't much of a line for the boat and it is a fast way to the MK. It seemed that we tended to take the monorail because we would ususally eat at Kona's or another resort for breakfast and then just take the monorail to the park. The monorail was just more convenient for the mornings. We tended to ride the boat more in the evenings on the way back to the room.

Thanks for the info! We cannot wait to stay at the Poly this Sept/Oct.

hi!!

we are going to be at the POLY the same time as you!!!

we were there last year and enjoyed riding the monorail in the am bvut let me tell you...that boat launch at night after WISHES is worth the 320 a night I SWEAR IT!!

The lines were always very short, the boat was always prompt and it was wonderful riding it back at night and catching the EWP ELECTRIC WATER PARADE....

there is a dock where you catch the boat at the poly and at the MK
there is a map on tikiman's website if you'd like a closer look at where it is

Maybe we will see you there

have a great time the poly is wonderful

we stay at the Poly every year and usually take the boat over to MK.
It's quiet and a short walk from Hawaii building.

We loved it - our first stay there was this past May. We took the small boat from MK to Poly our first night after watching the Light Parade. The wait was short and we were able to see the Wishes fireworks on the ride. You do have to fold up a stroller and carry it on with you though. We also took the ferry to the TTC a few times since our room at the Poly was closer to the TTC than the small boat launch. Our DS loved both the monorail ("train") and the boats. Being able to take either one easily made our trip all the more enjoyable.

Thanks to everyone for the information. One last related question - where do you catch the boat back to POLY from MK? Is it easy to find?

Walk out of the park, away from the castle. If you fall into the water, you have gone too far.

Just kidding. walk out of the MK, and just keep going straight. You will see a green (?) metal gate/fence area. There are 2 areas to enter; follow the one for GF/Poly.
