I have read that you can take a boat from the Poly to the MK, I was wondering if that was true and if anyone has done this. Is there an advantage to doing that over taking the monorail.

Yes it's true. We have used the boat that goes to MK from GF and Polynesian (they share). If you're going to the MK from the Polynesian then you only have one stop. If you're going to the Polynesian from the MK you're the second stop. At night when MK closes, SOMETIMES, the boat is faster than the monorail because of the line at the monorail station. Leaving the Polynesian to go to MK, the boat can be faster depending on what longhouse you're in and how far you'd have to walk to the dock or the monorail. But try the boat no matter what! It's a pleasant and scenic trip!!!

I'm not sure if there is an advantage or not.
we took it one morning to the MK . We were the only ones on it and the sun rising and reflecting off the water made a great photo op.

If both are waiting for you, the monorail woudl be faster...
if your room is close to the beach or dock it might be easier to use the boat.

I enjoyed the ride but i wouldn't take it if i saw many people waiting... because the monorail would be much faster if you had to wait for a 2nd boat to arrive.

We almost always took the boat to and from MK. We were staying in the Hawaii Longhouse and it was closer than the monorail.

I *love* the launch! It's a very relaxing ride, and usually pretty quick.

It runs MK-GF-Poly-MK, so you'll always have one stop less on the launch than on the monorail when traveling between the Poly and the MK. (The resort monorail goes MK-Contemp-TTC-Poly-GF-MK.)

I love the feel of the breeze on my face on a warm day, and I agree about the great photo ops. The monorail *might* be a little faster, but the boat is much more relaxing.

The little launch is very fast to the MK and always a pleasant ride. I personally think it can beat the monorail either way. My family has had races. The monorail can take a while to board at both the Polynesian and GF and sometimes waits for clearance. Same thing at CR and TTC on the way back. I do agree that it depends on where your room is.

If you're in one of the newer longhouses, you might want to consider the ferry for returning to the Polynesian from the MK if you take mid-day breaks as we always do. It's crowded on the way to MK in the am, but almost deserted on return trips around noon. Very fast and a short walk to Rapa Nui or Tahiti.

As we leave the MK, we check the status of the resort monorail, launch and ferry and choose. Nice to have so many options.:sunny:

However, I think the launches are the most fun and relaxing.:boat:

that's one of the things that makes the Poly our new Favorite resort. All the transportation choices. The boat is fun - especially at night - nice views of the resorts.

And it's not slow like the WL boat - we found the boat transportation from WL horrific.

The Launch is one of my favorite ways to travel between the two. We love the monorail too, so we just switch off between the two.

The launch is wonderful--especially at sunset. It's beautiful, calm and there is usually a nice breeze (even in summer). We've been the only couple on the launch at sunset a number of times, and we've felt like we were on our own private curise. Night is beautiful too. It's a great way to get around. We use all types of transportation--each has its benefits.

If you catch the launch at the right time, you can watch the fireworks on your way back.

with a stroller, we found the launch was easier. I loved the launch and used ut exclusively. I love the monorail, but the launch was so relaxing and beautiful.
