BoardWalk was just ok... did I miss something?

It is a beautiful resort but not my favorite and I totally agree with you about all the walking. I have always been closer to a bus ride to any park at SSR or OKW than anytime at BWV, so I never understood the great appeal of being near a park if you have to walk to get there. I will take cold bus any day over another long walk after a long day at the parks.

And yes a good counter service restaurant is a major draw back to me.

I am not a fan of Boardwalk at all. We haven't stayed there in years. However I love Beach Club which is straight across. That is my favorite resort. I guess that is why there are so many resorts for us to choose. Everyone has different opinions.

I am beginning to think that most DVC resorts have long walks for small children or their parents that are either pushing the stroller on carpeting or carrying the child after the complaints get to be too much. Long walks at WDW is just a fact of life and the one returning to the room after a day in the park is the hardest. I think what matters is if you love the resort enough to overlook any faults. And since DVC has a wide variety of resorts you should be able to find one that you like. It also helps to be near the entire families' favorite park.

^^ What they said :-)

...A friend and I (both own at BWVs) stayed at Kidani once. We took a walk to the end of the building. And people think BW has long walks???? I stopped counting steps after 350!!! Need to pack a snack and water if you're at the end of that walk!!

There are long walks at every resort. The lack of inside quick service is a bigger issue for me. I really wish BW would put something in like they have over at BCVs....a smallish quick service area. They used to have a kids club at BW...wonder what that area is being used for now?
What I find bothersome at BWV is the changes in the hallway. At least at KV, it's a straight shot to your villa. At BWV, do I turn here or is it the next right turn? Or was it a left turn.

Plus KV has multiple elevators where you can park under the building somewhat close to your villa. Poor BWV only has one elevator bank.

They do need drink stations along the way at KV, though. It can be a hike.

We own at Kidani, and, quite honestly, my favorite is the 1BR at Kidani, which I do at least 80% of the time. Christmas time 2013, I decided to change things up a bit and tried a 1BR boardwalk view at BWV. My assessment is that I would never have known if I hadn't tried it out. We were in the very last room on the ground floor. Our neighbors were really quiet, but, I guess because next door are the models to show prospective owners. It was a long walk from the lobby, but, we really only went to the lobby a couple times. Parking was about the worst of any place we've stayed at Disney, and we have stayed at AKV Jambo and Kidani, All-Star Sport, Music and Movies, BLT, Grand Floridian, Saratoga Springs, and have driven to dine at Wilderness Lodge and Polynesian. Kidani is way better, even on the rare occasion we couldn't park near the elevator nearest our room. The room design, specifically the BR/shower arrangement, isn't as nice as having 2 bathrooms in a 1BR. The rooms, in general, were designed before people routinely brought laptops and myriad other electronics, so, there weren't enough outlets, and no comfortable place to sit and use the laptop. The criteria was a comfortable chair and a large enough desktop to place the laptop securely in place. So, the room itself was "meh". It was great to be able to walk to Hollywood studios and Epcot in less time that the boats. It was nice, but, I don't feel compelled to go again.

You have to know where your room is in relation to the parks and boardwalk. If you always go to the lobby to exit, then you are doing it wrong.

It does take a little while to get to know the layout of BWV. It was three trips before I really understood how to make the best use of "secret stairs" and learned how to avoid getting lost in the arms.

I've never minded the single elevator bank. To me, I'm either walking to the elevator lobby closest to my room on the ground floor, or walking to my room from the elevator bank closest to the lobby. Its the same distance either way - and since we don't have a car, we aren't looking for an elevator lobby close to self park - we are either walking to Epcot (heading toward the lobby), taking a bus (you have to head towards the lobby) or taking a boat to the studios (going through the lobby). The possible exception is the swimming pool - there have always been convenient "secret stairs" - and the layout of BWV means that if you can take stairs, no room is very far from the theme pool.
