Boardwalk vs Animal Kingdom

It just depends on whether David has BWV owners wanting to rent points or not. Otherwise you wait until seven months out when all points are equal and hope for the best. Especially for early Dec. In your case, he must have had a BWV owner ready to rent out points.

TBH, I think a BWV 2-BR is harder to get for the first week of December than you realize. All BWV 2-BR villas are lock-offs, meaning that they are a combination of a 1-BR and a studio with a connecting door. Whenever a studio is booked, it takes a 2-BR villa out of inventory and leaves a 1-BR in its place. Studios are very popular at BWV with Standard View being the most frequently requested due to their low point requirement. The BW View is the second most-popular because of, well, the view! The G/P view will always be the very last to book up because they take the same number of points as the BW View but don't have the same wow factor.

There's a huge difference between booking BCV in Jan./Feb (a relatively low-demand DVC period) and trying to get a BWV villa for the high-demand period of early December. As @Deb & Bill pointed out, you were fortunate that David's had a BWV owner already lined up when you submitted your request. That's not always the case and a lot of potential renters come away with nothing for that time period because of a lack of either DVC owners or poor availability. That's not to discourage the OP from trying. It's just to point out that the chances of success are greater at one of the larger DVC resorts (OKW, SSR, AKV).

Jan/feb is completely different than Nov/Dec for DVC bookings.
Look at some actual numbers for BWV studios (where a 2BR is a studio+ 1BR)

At 7 months out, there were no studios in Nov and Dec. vs
Jan/Feb that still had some 7 month availability.

Again, I was able to book first week of December last year for a 2 bedroom at BWV in February. I'm not saying it will be no problem at all, but it is possible.

I also went through David's initially. I waited for about a week before I ended up going with an individual for BWV on February 9th of this year. DVC rental is more popular than ever now so its interesting how different of an experience you had just one year before me.

It is interesting. And I don't want the OP to think that getting a 2 bedroom is a guarantee. I just also don't want him/her to think that it is going to be next to impossible, Definitely put in your request 11 months out or even earlier. I know David's held our request for Beach Club until they could try for the reservation. In any case, I don't want the OP to feel completely discouraged but I also want him/her to have some back ups in mind just in case.

Thank you for all the replies! Would it be easier you think to book a Studio Villa for my parents and then book a 1 bedroom for my family at BWV? (Since 2 bedrooms are more difficult to book)

It would be nice to be close to them, but if not, as long as we are at the same resort that is fine.

If a studio and a 1-BR are available at BWV under the same booking category (e.g.. both are G/P View), then a 2-BR villa would also be available and for fewer points than a 1-BR + studio.

I would not stress too much about not getting a 2BR. If you put in a request now with a broker than I'm sure you will have an owner lined up with more than enough time. You are smart to be looking early!

Thank you all! I didn't realize that week was the most requested for DVC. That's a little scary. Would the last week in November be better?

Hopefully we can book something. I was leaning towards AKL but now BWV is looking better. The location would be really hard to beat.

We rented a studio at BWV for Dec. 1-9 in 2016. The 11 month mark was January 1st, a holiday. We contacted the broker a week or more before that, and they put us on the list of people to search for on Jan 1st. They were able to make our reservation for a preferred view studio within a few days of Jan 1st. I think not waiting until exactly the 11 month mark helps so the broker can begin searching as soon as that window opens, and possibly lining up points before that.

I love AKL theming, it's just beautiful.

However I prefer the Boardwalk location and proximity to the parks.

Overall I'd go with AKL - the Boardwalk can be quite busy and noisy and the decor isn't my cup of tea!

We own at both, give the nod to AKV

I had to waitlist the end of June to piece together 6 nights @ SSR this year coming in the Saturday after Thanksgiving. All that was left was preferred. There was nothing open the first 2 weeks in December for studio or 1 BR.

I'd be looking for that 11 month window to try &book, especially if you want a specific unit/resort.

1 BR always open when i see no studios. If you could swing two 1 BR would probably have no problem end of November.
