I have read here on the disboards how some of you visit resorts other than the ones you are staying in. How do you get past the guards? If we went down to the boardwalk, what is there to do?

Thanks

The only places that are "guarded" are the parks. Anyone can walk into any resort and look around. Obviously you can't go to a different resort to use their pools (the one exception to this is DVC members can pool hop at select resorts).

Here are some links that talk about what there is to do at the Boardwalk.

If you're driving the Boardwalk, the parking lot is guarded and reserved for resort guests only. There is overflow parking across the street near the Hess gas station. Or if you want to use Valet parking, you need to go to the parking attendant and they should let you in so you can drive up to the main hotel entrance to get a valet.

Can we ride disney transportation to the Boardwalk, say ride to mk then hop a bus to boardwalk? which would be quickest, we are staying at port orleans riverside

Yes you can ride any buses. A connection at a park (or Downtown Disney) applies for nearly all resort tor resort trips.

Or, if you happen to be at Epcot, you can leave via the International Gateway in WS and walk over.

Sorry to hijack, but is the Hess pretty close to BWI? We're at BC, but I'd love to grab some snacks at Hess (they usually carry grape soda, which I loooove but can never find on property).

There's a Hess station on the other side of Downtown Disney and another one right next to the Boardwalk. As far as going to visit resorts, you can go to any resort without a problem. If driving just tell the guard you want to see the hotel and they'll guide you to where to park. You can also take Disney buses, boats or the monorail to visit them. The Boardwalk is accessible by boats or walking from either Hollywood Studios or EPCOT,from Epcot it's a real short walk.Of course you can also take a bus to the Boardwalk from the other parks or DTD.

DH has walked to the Hess near the BW. It's not a particularly "short" walk from BW (BC would be farther, of course), but it is do-able. From BWV/BWI main entrance, you just walk straight toward the street (don't turn left at the bus stop, just walk straight, towards the guard shack (sorry, don't know the "technical" term, lol) and then from there, you'll have to cross the busy street. The Hess station will be a small jog to the right. hth.

We visited the BW last fall and parked in the back section of the BW resort. The guard at the entrance advised us to go to the rear of the lot (front is valet). It's a walk, but a bit better than parking at the Hess.

We go there every year. We get a couple drinks at ESPN zone or by the ppol at the BC and stroll around the BW. In additional the zone, they have a general store, a street performer, Ice cream store, Pizza counter and bakery. You can rent a surry bike too! For entertainment, there's the Atlantic Dance Hall and Jelly Rolls, a dueling piano bar. Lot's to see and do IMO.
