Boardwalk view villas being pulled out of inventory

I understand that problems can occur at the last minute-maybe a big water main break that affects several rooms, or something. But when that type of thing happened to me, they upgraded me to a more point-costly villa. Disney, hear the suggestion?

We are checking into a GV on Saturday and have not received a phone call.

I was not expecting any points back since the points used for the 2 views are the same. It is just very disappointing that you book something so far out, and then a few days before check in, you don't get your room.

The CM said that lots of Boardwalk view villas were being taken out of inventory unexpectedly for a maintenance issue. Just wondering if anyone knew what was going on. A lot of villas out of service doesn't seem to be anything like a normal leak - it seems to me that it would be something more extensive to knock out multiple villas at once.

They are giving the renters a credit on their account for the inconvenience.

I just stayed at BWV last week in a 1 BR garden view. I asked for canal view & got a room almost all the way at the end of the hall. I want to say it was 5014 or 5514 maybe? Just beyond my room there were constuction crews working on BW view rooms. Not sure what they were doing but there were at least 3 or 4 rooms (BW side only) that had signs on them & were clearly being worked on. Doors were never open so I don't know what they were doing but they're definitely doing something.

Interesting. While they're working on those rooms, I hope they fix the problems we had when we stayed in the last boardwalk view room along that corridor. There was no hot water in the kitchen. Maintenance was not able to correct the problem while we were there. Also, some room enhancements from the last refurbishment were not completed in some of the rooms at that end of the hallway. For example, the nightstands did not get the new back panel with the power outlets and the built-in USB chargers. I reported that when we got home and was assured by Member Satisfaction that they would pass the information along to the resort.

I'm sorry for those that are losing their boardwalk view next week. I hope somebody manages to get the inside scoop on what work is being done.

Thanks for sharing your experience. It is disappointing regarding the short notice. At least they did something. Do you mind sharing what credit they gave for the inconvenience?

We also had a room without the USB ports - actually might have been the same 1BR Boardwalk view. Our studio a couple of rooms down also did not have them. And I've forgotten if it was that same 1BR or if it was my pool/garden view 1BR across the way that they had missed painting under the dining counter. :sad2:

My room did not have USB ports. Every room lately has had them so I was looking for them but nope. Now that I'm used to using them I missed them. Other than that no issues with the room. I guess it had been much longer than I thought since I had last stayed at BWV. When did they pull up the carpets in the kitchen/LR area? I guess that's the trend now in all the resorts but I can't say I'm a big fan of it. I like something soft on my feet after a long day in the parks.

That flooring change was when they did the big refurb - which is what now - started 2 years ago and finished just a little over a year ago I think? It's one thing I didn't like about the CCV studios - no carpet at all - just the vinyl flooring. At least in the refurbs they didn't do that!

I was part of another conversation about the USB ports having had two close together stays at BWV and if I'm recalling correctly my second stay in an HA pool/garden 2BR last April there were the USB ports. I started thinking they had either changed the design and added part way thru the refurb or they hadn't gotten the right parts - the BWV rooms and the P/G across the halls from them were the first ones done and the pool view we had was one of the last ones done.

It's part of the timeshare compromise we all make. If the renters are satisfied, then all is whole.

Except the OP lost money compensating them. I would expect some kind of compensation from DVC for the loss of the view. I don't book the garden/pool view at BWV. I either want the BW view or I want to save $$ and I book a standard view.
The OP didn't lose money. Compensation came from Disney or DVC, not the OP.

I didn't see that, and still don't. DVC is giving them a credit. But ultimately it's still an inherent risk of timeshares and renting out timeshares. What if it was the last villa and there was a major water leak and not other villas on property? Obviously these are risks in general with resort stays but there's a larger risk with timeshares. Each situation is different, I suspect the OP could get points back as well to the level of the standard view if they insisted. Still, I think too many put far too much emotion into pool and other refurbishments, it can be unfortunate but in the end it's what we've signed up for. Sure some is potentially avoidable with better planning/notification but I think we know by now that DVCMC is what they are and if we continue to play, we've said that's relatively OK with us.

I'm in a one-bedroom standard view next week. Hopefully those won't be an issue.

Do you think the villa rooms are finally being refurbished?

All the BWV rooms have been renovated within the last 2 years.
Thanks. i was not aware. I just recently watch the Dis Unplugged 7 in 7 on the Boardwalk, and had me a little scared staying in one of these rooms since I didn't really like the appeal. We booked solely on location more than the appeal though.

I did not compensate the renters, DVC did. They gave them $50 per person to compensate them for the inconvenience.

I just read on another thread that someone got a $200 room credit when their room wasn't ready at 4:00. That's why I would expect compensation if this happened to me. Seems like they compensate for everything else.

What they tend to do is compensate inconsistently. It's only recently we've seen a few reports of those getting in late being compensated. When I think back to the previous BWV BW view change to BCV and the 2 AKV concierge debacles mostly ending up at SSR, it just highlights how consistent they are. I don't recall seeing much compensation going from BWV BW view to BCV. The response and compensation for the AKV concierge to SSR was all over the place. For some it was just a return of points differential all the way up to a complete return of points, basically a free stay or a return of differential and free DDP.
