Hi,

After a two year hiatus, we are going back to WDW. We intend to stay at Boardwalk in a 1 bedroom home. There are two options to choose from in regards to view, preferred or standard view. I dont have a problem with the extra points for the preferred view, however, I am unsure of these type views. 6 or 7 years ago we stayed there and had the clown pool view and absolutely hated it. Is this a preferred view ??? How can get a different view than this ?? Any suggestion would be appreciated.

Also, we are planning to be there 4 or 5 days and it appears that they no longer have the length of stay passes. We would want to do the Park Hopper option if possible and water parks and other minor parks are not an issue. Any suggestions on the ticket media ?? and do we get a DVC discount ?

Thanks for any advice you can dish out !

Pat

There are now actually 3 views:

Standard
Preferred Pool/Garden
Preferred Boardwalk

You can actually reserve the boardwalk view. Points are the same for both preferred categories.

The only DVC ticket discount is $100 off an annual pass.

The clown view is considered a prefferred view. I guess you can request no pool view with your reservation. We just had a great view from room #4026. It overlooked the clown, which my kids loved, and also to the right you could see MGM. From what I gather there are very few standard view rooms so request what you want in the preffered and see what happens.

There are no DVC discounts on park hopper tickets just Annual Passes. What you could do is buy more days on you tickets and get a no expiration. So this way when you go back you already have tickets. I think 6 days in the minimun park hopper pass unless your down for business in which case they do offer a 2 or 3 day pass.

I would try and book a BW view if you can. A couple years ago we stayed at BWV #4131 which was a preferred view and had a view of the valet parking lot/canal area for the most part. We did have a view of the TOT but only if we were standing on our balcony and looking to the right. I was actually suprised our view was even considered preferred because the parking lot was at least 75% of the view.
Personally, I would opt for the clown pool over the view we had----I actually thought the main pool view was nice, but I understand if you felt differently.

I just returned from BW 12 hours ago  from a WONDERFUL BW view on the third floor! If you cannot get an actual BW view room, ask for a room on the 4th-5th floor, so you actually get a view. The quiet pool is nice, so is the canal view overlooking Swan-Dolphin. Both are preferred view rooms. I stay away from standard view rooms--I got a room right by the air conditioners for the whole resort! :furious: It was awful--the Clown pool is preferrable to that!

For tickets I would also suggest signing up for the mousesavers newsletter at www.mousesavers.com On the 15th of each month you will receive a newsletter which will include some discount ticket options at ticketmania and other valid discounter. Many DVCers opt for the 10 day no expiration ticket (can include 6 options) if they are not planning two trips within a calendar year (when the current DVC discount on an AP makes a lot of sense).

How about just asking them for a preferred view but not of the main clown pool.

Then you'd probably get a view of the canal. That's what we had last time we were there, and it was quite lovely.

Our first trip home will be in December to a one bedroom Boardwalk view villa. We're excited! When I called about waitlisting last week, the member services person seemed very surpised that such a room was still available for December 7-10. We're happy and looking forward to our first DVC trip.

That's exactly the unit and view we want and exactly the dates we want! So I hope one is still available in a month, at the 7-month mark. If not, we'll try to book p/g and waitlist for bw!

Since BW view is the same points as preferred view, I'd certainly try to get that first. Then, if all that is left is PV...then I'd request quiet pool OR the courtyard on the other end (the clown pool is in the middle courtyard) which overlooks a grassy area, the canal and the Swan and Dolphin...If you are in the middle of that courtyard, you can also see TOT and Fantasmic.

Good luck
