Boardwalk GV vs. Other- Vet's please help!

We are planning a trip for January, 2008 (sad that I am already thinking of it, I know) , and we want to take another family with us. I noticed on the 2007 point charts that a 1 bedroom plus a 2 bedroom is 40 points/night. The Grand Villa is 74 points a night. Since the GV is basically the combo of 1 and 2- minus thte extra kitchen- why is it so much more? Is is worth it to spend the extra 34 points a night? If so, why?

A one bedroom and a two bedroom will give you 2 queens and one King bed plus 3 sofa sleepers. A grand villa will be 5 actual beds plus one sleeper. The floor space in the grand villa should be more spacious as well as a larger kitchen, dining and living area. They are also boardwalk view. 40 points gets standard view for the one and 2 bedroom combo - for BW view it is 52 points. Two separte units would give more privacy to two separate families. Grand villa would be nice for entertaining or for close friends or family.

The points are more because DVD made them that way. You'll see all the GV are more than the sum of their parts but BWV and SSR define this more since DVD upped the ante when they released the points requirement for BWV. As a rule, VB, OKW & HH has a GV more than a 2 BR plus studio but at or less than a 1 plus a 2 BR. There are kitchen differences also mostly due to the more cozy apartment style kitchen of the newer resorts. Remember that you have more flexibility with the smaller units if you have to change or cancel part of your trip or guests.

I've never stayed in a GV, but according to the DVC website, a BWV GV is 2,492 sq ft, while a 1br is 814 sq ft and a 2br is 1,226 sq ft. So a GV gives you more living space than a 1br plus a 2br. Based on the floorplan below and the 360-degree tours http://dvc.disney.go.com/dvc/guest/...spectsBoardwalkVillasResortAccommodationsPage, the GV has a very spacious living area and a large dining room table.

From Lisa's diagram... you can see that the GV has 6 sections. By contrast:

Studio - 1
1BR - 2
2BR - 3
GV - 6

It looks like the leftmost is similar to the MBR of a 1BR or 2BR.... and the right most is similar to a studio or 2nd bedroom in a 2BR unit.
