I am about to stay at the Boardwalk for the first time this May. What are the opinions out there about this resort? Any secrets or cool things I should try while staying there?

Thanks,
Greg

Hi Greg,

We have stayed there three times and we think that this is the best resort to relax at.

Leaping Horse Libations at the main pool - tasty snacks and good drinks.

Boardwalk Bakery - Great pastries. Get one & coffee and sit on bench in the AM and people and boat watch. Refillable mugs available here.

Bellevue Lounge just off lobby - Two times we were there, they served a nice continental breakfast here. Also good place to relax after day in the parks.

Location - Ambiance of the whole area is, in our opinion, just great. So many dining options. Walk or a relaxing boat ride to Epcot or MGM. If you have time, check out the Swan/Dolphin area, paticularly the Dolphin Lobby

Restaurants - We have had excellent meals at Cape May, Flying Fish, Beaches and Cream (a must do), ESPN.

Have a most magical trip!!

WOW Peg and Bob. Thanks for the report.

I'll just second everything Peg said. She mentioned every single thing I was going to post!!!

Hi again,

Should have mentioned Miss America stuff in Seashore Sweets.

Weyland Galleries is interesting - located in courtyard off main porch of the Inn.

Games are open in the evening. Surrey Bikes are fun all day.

When we were there pools were open very late, but not guarded.

I guess you can tell we have been often enough to WDW that relaxation is a big part of our trip. Have fun!! Bob

what is Miss America stuff?

We are also staying at the BWV in May and we are really looking forward to it!!

The BoardWalk Inn is a wonderful resort! We love the atmosphere there very much--it's exciting while still being very relaxing. Renting surrey bikes is a favorite activity of ours--it's a fun way to tour around Crescent Lake. Also, the courtyard out behind the BoardWalk Inn is a beautiful area--lots of neat spots to take pictures of your family with pretty backgrounds.

twinscandc, the Miss America stuff in Seashore Sweets is the robe, a crown, and a scepter from Miss America along with pictures on the walls of all the Miss Americas. I will say that the robe/scepter/crown were not there on our trip in January--not sure if they were on loan somewhere or if that is a permanent thing.

We really enjoyed The Big River Grill and Brewing Works.. and if you're a steak eater, take the boat to the Yachtsman Steakhouse. We ate breakfast at the Boardwalk Bakery one day, and fed a few pigeons, but then we switched to ordering bagels from room service. You can fill out a card with what you want, and leave it on the door that night with the time you want it delivered in the morning. It got us out the door faster since one person could eat while the other showered, and it cost about the same as the bakery since we didn't have to buy drinks (we had a cooler in our room). Oh, and if you like corndogs, you HAVE to stop at the corndog stand outside the hotel. Yum. :>

The downside is that the Boardwalk shares it's bus with all of the Epcot area resorts, and the Boardwalk is the last on the loop. It's only an issue with the AK and MK since there's boat/walking access to Epcot and MGM. The boat is slower than walking, but enjoyable.

I love to sit on a benchoutside espn club, and people watch. Will usually see a performer or two. And it is fun watching people come back from illuminations. The things you will see.

Nothing else like it...you will fall in love. We stayed in 2002. DH decided he wanted to try a different resort in 04, so we chose the Wilderness Lodge. Don't get me wrong, it was nice, but nothing compares to the Boardwalk. We went over one night after EPCOT and I was literally homesick!! Awesome!!!!!! Enjoy your trip

I agree...love this resort!

The huge elephants around the pool are so fun, and the carrousel snack area is great. I just love enjoying the decor of the lobby and lounging on one of those chairs, or else out on the deck in front of it. It has such a lively feel to it, and so beautifully decorated. The room are the best part...huge and gorgeously decorated. I loved the quiet pool...in fact, we were alone out there on most evenings, even the jacuzzi. It's fun just to walk around the property, and especially to walk back to it after Illuminations. So relaxing!

LOL - :rotfl2: ead79 - I thought you were saying that the Miss America stuff was a kind of treat, etc!! I've been in that Seashore Sweet shop before, but didn't even pay attention to the decor....I'll have to check it out (being a previous beauty queen myself!!)

We are really looking forward to this trip.....can't wait....we'll be in double digits before we know it!!

Make sure you have breakfast at Spoodles just a few doors from the Boardwalk. Fabulous food and it is a nice quiet way to start your day. All their food is great.....especially their breakfast pizza/flat bread.....SOOOO GOOD!!!!

Thanks for all the great information, we are staying at the BWI in late April to early May.

I have a question regarding hot tubs. Is there one or more? Where is the hot tub located?

Thanks,

There is a hot tub by the themed pool and another by the quiet pool on the hotel side. There may be another by the Boardwalk Villas, but I have not stayed on that side so I am not sure. I know there are definitely two, though!!

Thanks for the information.

I've been reviewing all the sites information. Cannot wait to get there. I've looked at all the menus for the restraunts for BW, YC & BC. Seems we'll be eating a lot.

I'll try that new Dining Experience, since Passholders are now eligible.

Ooooooohhh!

You have made me so excited!! I just made my reservations for BWI for September and wasn't sure I had made the right choice. But after reading everyone's reviews, I am really looking forward to my stay. :teeth:

I'm so happy to read these reports about BWI - we will be there a week from Saturday - WooHoo!!
