Boards going down tonight @ 11pm Eastern

We need to evaluate the effect the "long threads" are having on board performance. In order to do that we will be "hiding" the long threads for 24 hours. They will come back so no need to panic
I will be shutting the boards down around 11pm to move the threads around and make some other changes.
If you are a participant in one of these threads please feel free to start another thread tomorrow.
A long thread will be over 10,000 posts for the purpose of this experiment

So far today, the Dis seems to be very quick in loading pages!

The system is performing better than expected.

E-mail notifications started working this AM as well.

We'll still need to see what happens when the board traffic picks up this afternoon and evening - but it sure does seem better right now.

Lately we've been running traffic of over 3000 posters on at one time. Throwing bigger, faster servers at the problem should have made a difference so Alex is now trying some other things to improve speed and , hopefully, even get search to work - but the speed has to improve first. We don't really want to limit the large threads either if possible.

I can't open any of the long threads, on either one of my computers. I've asked a couple times what to do about it but nobody seems to know. Can i possibly be the only one with this problem? I would LOVE to see the long ones broken down smaller so I could access some of my favorite ones again!
