DW was injured last year and cannot go long distances on foot so she willb e using a wheelchair for our upcoming trip. That being said, she CAN walk/climb stairs etc. and would prefer doing so on busses. What is the best approach to let the driver know right away that he doesn't need to lower the bus/lift ( Unless another guest needs it, of course! ). If she gets up out othe chair when the bus arrives, think that'll be enough to signal that? Then we can just fold it up and bring it on board?

Can she stand? I would wait in the line with others and when you see the bus coming, just fold up the seat. I believe the person in the wheelchair/scooter has an alternate place to wait but if you do not need the lift, I would probably wait with everyone else. Sue usually has great advice. I'm sure she'll be by to give a better answer. And, I am sorry for your DW injury.

She can totally stand, walk, climb stairs. It's just that she can't for long periods of time. Of course she wants to get on the bus as quickly as possible ( since she can ), but she also doesn't want to take away a potential full spot for anyone who really needs a lift and wheelchair spot. For her, she really mostly needs it IN the parks for the long periods of walking/standing.

well when the bus pulls up they will open the front door to let guest out if their any you could let them know then. The new buses have ramps instead of lifts and no stairs to enter they could tilt the bus to make it more plush with the side walk. But their will still be a little gap between the bus and side walk even though the driver try their best to get as close as they can some times they can't.that why they have a ramp that will lower quickly and provide a safe way to get on if you need that.

i wouldn't worry about it because if their no seats she might have to stand so it might be better for her to stay in the wheel chair so she dose not have to stand that long. Plus with these new buses they are much faster to get on the ramp lowers you enter tie down ramp comes back up not like the old buses which are not as many as the use to have the new buses out number the old ones by a large number.

If the concern is that she doesn't want to take up extra seats then there's no need to take extra chairs if she'll be using a manual wheelchair. Manual chairs can be folded and held similar to a stroller.
