Boardfirst.com on Southwest Airlines

Well we have had to sit apart from our children so please don't assume it never happens. I don't think the original poster was looking for people's opinions of S/W or of their boarding methods, he was just asking about a particular website. If someone could answer the question and all of us stop judging then he (or she) can make his decision and then start working on the important stuff... the MAGIC of Disney!

Thank you. Glad that someone understands.

I'm guessing that no one here has used the website (at least not since March 11).

As for why I booked Southwest: at the time that I booked, it was less than half the cost of any other airline. I wanted to book it far in advance to avoid the possibility of flights being sold out. Also, at the time, I was not aware that boardfirst.com might be illegal (that issue didn't come up until March 11), so I figured that I'd just use boardfirst.com and forget about it, and then show up to the airport 2 hours before my flight, and print my Group A pass. Unfortunately, it seems that strategy might be risky knowing that boardfirst.com might be illegal.

Why haven't you called SW to find out if it is legal? Your question probably could have been answered ages ago.

First of all, whatever receptionist I talk to on the phone is unlikely to know the correct answer. Secondly, telling an airline that I might use a service that might be illegal doesn't seem like the best idea.

First of all, who says that you have to identify yourself when you call SW. You are merely aking a question regarding whether something is allowed by the airline or not. It seems from your posts that you would not want to use the service if it were illegal. If so, what is the problem with asking them if it can be used. If you would use the service even if it were illegal then why would it matter to you if it were allowed or not.

If you call SW I doubt that you would speak to only a receptionist. SW has trained customer service agents.

You are making something so simple into something so difficult. :confused3

No one seems to have recently used the service, so I say give it a try. If it turns out to be illegal, then at worst, you lose $5 & when you get to the airport you will find that you need to check in.

This thread has become quite interesting to say the least, so....I decided that I would just call Southwest myself and see what they say. I called twice so that I would have 2 different customer service representatives. Neither time did I identify myself. One had heard of it before and the other had not. The one that had not said she felt it a scam to get $$ and that she would be concerned about giving a company this type of info. The one that had heard about it said she had no idea how long they would be in business it was not something that SW recommended. (which is of course what you would think they would say!)

So there is that info. Although it is not much help.

I have no idea what time your flight will be leaving but if you are at CC that day, why not just stop by the computers on your way back in and check in. It only will take a minute or 2 you may not get A but at least you have a better chance of getting B.

Next, if that does not work, ask the flight attendant about getting a seat together. They are usually accomodating.

Also, I did some research on the company. Here is one of the links I found. http://www.azcentral.com/specials/special44/articles/1227bizwhat-katebell.html The owner of the companines spouse is a lawyer.

Make sure you check out their site's FAQ because there are some restrictions.

Actually, at worst I could go to jail for using an illegal service, and most likely I'd lose my flight reservation, and have no way to go home. I think I might, if I can screw up enough courage to do so, call Southwest and ask them if it is legal. The other bad thing that could happen is that they use my credit card number to steal my identity; but I'm not too worried about that since I have never heard of it happening with that site.

But if she never even heard of the service, then anything she says is not likely to be accurate.

That wasn't too helpful.

No. But, thank you for trying.

So you really think the site is not safe?

Next, if that does not work, ask the flight attendant about getting a seat together. They are usually accomodating.

Maybe

But that was before March 11, so it's not too helpful.

Are you for real? Sounds like you are someone trying to stir up trouble!

Golly mitsguy2001! I was just trying to help here! I didn't know I was going to have everything I mention in here quote, comment, quote, comment, quote comment! I feel as tho I was just flamed and all I was trying to do was help you get a little more info. I'm sorry I even tried to help. I won't be reading this link anymore and have learned not to try and spend my time calling and checking a website. The other DIS have been so helpful and wonderful to me I wanted to try and help someone else. Good Luck with whatever you decide to do.

If you read my post, you will see that I thanked you. So I don't understand why you think I flamed you. I'm sorry if I came across that way. My intention was to thank you.

Thank you. It's unfortunate that every time I ask a question, it turns into a flame war
Is it possible that has ANYTHING to do with you disputing every suggestion that doesn't say what you want it to?

First of all, if you have so little faith in the knowledge base of the reservationist (not receptionist) at your airline of choice, it's possible you've chosen the wrong airline. Secondly, given that the airline does not and will not trace your call or track you down, asking "Will Southwest allow passengers to get their boarding passes generated by boardfirst.com?" is NOT going to affect your reservation.

mitsguy2001,

You have been worrying for months about everything from your driver's license getting stolen to your luggage ending up in the water to now going to jail or not sitting with your friend. Since you said your friend has cruised before and travels more than you do, why don't you follow her lead? She is apparently not worried about these things and is hoping to have a relaxing, fun time with you. Take a deep breath and enjoy the anticipation of a great time with your friend instead of trying to prevent every worst-case scenario! You probably won't feel better until someone guarantees that you won't lose luggage, get kicked out of Palo because you don't have the right clothes, be the victim of a crime, or have to sit in a middle seat on the plane next to a crying child. Since none of us can guarantee any of that, we have been trying to help you out as much as we can. If this is a "trip of a lifetime" for you, I hope it lives up to your positive expectations, becasue you sound like you aren't having any fun planning it!

Best of luck to you and your friend that you will be able to relax and have fun! :)

You posted all these questions on the transportation board and got the same answers, then the thread was closed apparently because no one could give you the answers you wanted and people got frustrated at your responses to them. How many people have to tell you the same thing about boardfirst and lost luggage? If you can't have any faith in the process, why are you cruising in the first place? Pick a vacation where you can drive in your car and carry your own bags and have access to appropriate clothing stores at all times, or make the best of what happens!

Hope you and especially your friend can manage to have a good time!
