Board not as active anymore?

So stating we don’t like the fluff threads because they’re not our thing is suddenly being mean? The question asked was why are the boards so quiet. For many of us, those threads and the lack of ability to have real life current event conversations are the reasons. It’s not being mean, it’s a fact. Nobody has said those posters shouldn’t post.

I joined years ago, maybe 2012-13 can’t recall exactly. I recently returned and notice this place doesn’t seem to be hopping the way it used to be. Used to be a thread was on page two in a matter of hours. Have a lot of people joined someplace else or are people just busier these days? Life is quite a bit LESS busy for me these days so I have more time to spare, and upon return was disappointed to see the boards without the energy they had back in the day!

I just logged on today for the first time in years!!! It seems things have slowed down. It’s probably been 10 years for me. Divorce, job loss, moving three times…I wish I had a trip planned. But I’m gonna have a granddaughter in November!!
Am in bed with Covid and it occurred to me to log on!
I miss this place.

My issue with the fluff threads is to look for the people who often answer these fluff questions. It's so tempting to compile all the information people give and create quite an accurate profile of them, of all their habits, their childhood fears, their hopes, their dreams and nightmares. Except for their mother's maiden name, the name of their first pet and the name of their elementary school, the essential information one might need to hack all their online accounts. So for online safety it might not be so bad, but I do have the feeling I can write a good movie out of this about identity theft.

I agree and was thinking the same thing when see how much personally identifiable information those threads can contain. Hopefully, everyone has enough awareness of online security to not answer questions if someone starts asking your mother's maiden name or the last 4 of your SS#.................LOL.

I have been here awhile and have noticed it's not as active as it once was. A lot of it I imagine has to do with the state of Disney right now. I do like this place in general. The one thing I have noticed ever since I joined is how little many care about construction updates.

This is a sad an ironic example right here why people have probably left. On a thread ASKING why this board is less active and people give their preferences and opinions as to WHY they post less they are then bullied and intimidated that their preference and response is wrong and that they needed a QUALIFICATION first to even have posted their differing opinion.

Two boards are now totally gone and the last two (this one included) are no where near as active back in the "golden days". One of those now gone boards has migrated to FaceBook and is fairly active there. On this board I've put those who just post non Disney fluff stuff and those that irritate me in my "Ignor" file so a lot of posts I never see so it's mostly tranquil here for me now.

There was lots of discussion that went on. Don't get me wrong the news thread is good but it lacks much discussion. As as you respond to a news post before any more discussion goes on they post a new story.

You must have a fairly large ignore list. The community board is meant to be nonDisney fluff.

Actually, it is meant to be: .... any topic, Disney or otherwise. Swap stories, information, ask questions...just be friendly.

So, (a) not necessarily non-Disney and (b) not necessarily "fluff" (there are a lot of non-fluff non-Disney topics). It is limited by the non-politics and limited/no-COVID rules, but doesn't mean that it is meant to be only "nonDisney fluff"

I noticed the change for the News and Rumors forum too. Something happened during the height of the COVID/election time period. I had stepped away at that time due to the general overall rudeness on the DIS, so missed it (although I can guess). That forum had a very good, young moderator, and he seems to be gone now. Too bad.

With the current limitations and how seemingly anything of substance is deemed political we are left with a lot of fluff. Note I did not say the community board was “only” nonDianey fluff. But it is pretty fluffy.
