Has anyone seen the Blue Man Group? Is it at Universal yet and will it be a permanent fixture like Cirque at WDW? Would it hold the attention of a 6 yr old?
Love

HI Debs, will be interested i hearing the responses you get as we are hoping to see this too, thanks for posting.

Dad and I saw the Las Vegas show last year and absolutely loved it. I think they will probably be tailoring the Universal show to a family audience so you should be OK with a 6 year old.

Please could someone describe the show to me?!!! What does it actually consist of? Is it like Cirque at all?

It's kind of difficult to explain but think rock concert meets sketch show. I haven't seen Cirque but from what I have read and excerpts of some of the Cirque shows I have seen Blue Man Group is nothing like Cirque at all.

The Blue Men are mute throughout the show so the humour is visual and a lot of it comes from facial expressions and body language. The Las Vegas show starts with the Blue Men covering the skins of drums with paint and then banging them so they get covered in it. There is a sequence where they throw paint balls at each other, catch them in their mouths and then spit it out onto canvas creating "abstract art". One of the music elements comes from creating tunes by banging on various pieces of plastic tubing connected together and then moved in and out trombone style creating an instrument they call a "drumbone". There is some audience participation at various stages as well (and don't think you are safe by sitting up on the balcony either). Hopefully they will do "How to be a rockstar" as part of the Universal show as well - there is an awful lot of truth in that sequence, it basically pokes fun at every manufactured boy band you have ever seen.

Like I say it is difficult to describe and probably doesn't sound that great written down but it is well worth the experience.

Hope that helps.

I agree with the last poster, Blue Man Group is very difficult to describe. I personally do not think that this show is appreciated by anyone under the age of 7 or 8. Most of it involves body language and facial expressions which little kids just won't "get" and would probably get bored rather quickly. Universal does not recommend this show for anyone under the age of 5. And all children require a ticket no matter their age, no lap sitting like at Cirque.

All that being said, I would highly recommend the show for anyone over the age of 8! It is hilarious and the fun part is that you have no idea why it's funny but you're laughing your butt off! It is very visually entertaining. Good news is that the theatre at Universal only seats 1000 so there is not a bad seat in the house! So if you're contemplating, go ahead and get the cheaper seats in the back, they are still going to be GREAT seats! Maybe even better because you get a better perspective of the stage.

A word of warning, if you are sat in the first 4 rows you are supplied with a poncho.

Just been to see BMG this eve. Worth every penny. As I have said before I did not enjoy Cirque but DS and DW did.
BMG we all really really enjoyed. Such a difficult show to explain but well worth going to. We were in 3rd row with poncho's but they were not needed, nothing really came of the stage.
I am sure we will book again for next year.

I've seen it a couple of times (once in Boston, once in Orlando) and think it's one of the best, most creative shows to date. I don't think I'd take a child younger than, say 10 or 11 though. It's just too cerebral, really, and younger children may not find it as captivating as older kids and adults would.

Having said that, there's nothing in it that would be inappropriate for a 5 year old. In fact, it could be argued that the Blue Men are very much LIKE a 5 year old! ;)

We went to see them two weeks ago (DS 11 & DD 9) and it was the highlight of our trip - we laughed so much and really felt part of the whole blue man experience. They go out into the audience on a number of occasions and at one point the whole audience joins in.

Really fantastic, can't recommend it highly enough.

We saw them in Orlando last week. DS and I loved the show. DW was scared whitless every time one of them came close to her, she didn't like the show and would rather have spent the money elsewhere.

:) Chris

We went to see BMG on the 22 Aug and though i was a little unsure it was great and would recommend you watch it at least once. DD had one of them stood on her chair arm dancing away and the famous thumb print on her cheek after.
Just noticed your ticker, we were at POFQ at the same time as you.

If you want to see what they are like there are videos posted on youtube, although these will be of the Vegas shows you will still get an idea what they are all about. After seeing the videos I really want to go and see then so they will be on our itinerary next august

Can anyone who has seen both the Universal BMG show and the Las Vegas one compare the two? Are they the same or very different? Thanks! :goodvibes :wizard:

After enjoying seeing BMG in Orlando last month I thought we would book to see them in Vegas in October but after finding out price I won't bother. Orlando cost me $155 for 3 of us, Vegas is $363, both in poncho section. I will wait until next year for Orlando again.

Yes, I was surprised at the considerably lower prices in Orlando. However, Vegas shows have got much pricier over the past couple of years - the Cirque shows have a "Vegas premium" too.

That's why I would be interested to hear whether people who have seen both think the Vegas show is worth the extra or just the same.

I know I was also considering seeing Love but $495+tax for 3 seats is crazy.
I did not like Cirque in Orlando so not paying it just to try another. DW & DS liked it but not me.
