I am wondering, if my Husband wants to come along to the Dolphin Encounter, but not go in the water, does it still cost $113.50. He basically is interested in watching taking pictures and thats it... Anybody have any info on this???

There is a fee for observing. The dolphin swim website will have that info on it.

I do advise this, we did this in September and we all will never forget it ever. It was well worth the money.

Disney only offers the Dolphin Encounter. My daughter (9) and I wanted to do the Swim so I booked it today directly with the Nassau office. The Swim is $165 per person (pricey!, but hopefully worth it).

They said that for Grandma to observe the price would be $20.00 (also booked).

They said that I should get off the ship, ask for directions to the water taxi ($3 per person) which would take me across to Paradise Island where the Dolphin Encounter ticket/boat facilities are. We should go to the ticket window, tell them our confirmation #, and board their boat to the island. I assume that this is the procedure in reverse as well. They said it would be about 3 1/2 hours total (I assume there is some education going on first, then changing into the provided wet-suits, then finally going into the water with the dolphins.....just guessing here about the actual sequence!)

Do you know if the Swim is in open water or is it tanked also? I assume the the encounter is tanked, although I don't really remember reading that! Anyone know why it is more expensive to book the encounter thru Disney than directly from the company? Just wondering!

We did the ENCOUNTER last June. The SWIM and Encounter are side by side to one another. The ENCOUNTER just has a platform in the water where you stand. Both areas are part of a "lagoon" it is just netted off from the rest of the lagoon. It is very lovely. The dock area that you sit on during the ENCOUNTER is also covered which was great for staying out of the sun. I believe the waiting area/dock for the SWIM was also covered.

As far as costs....I am not sure why it is more when booked through Disney??? We used shoretrips.com and were VERY pleased with the service and assistance.

Have a great time :umbrella: It is GREAT

Looks like we are now going to be doing the Dolphin encounter also. We had planned on doing the Dig (I've always wanted to visit the Atlantis just once), but when dh heard about the dolphins he lit up, and put to dd and ds they both chose dolphins hands down. so I am outnumbered I guess. I don't suppose there is anyway to combine visiting th eDig and doing the Dolphin Encounter is there?

I was wondering that too though. Is it maybe because the Disney one includes the Blue Lagoon Beach Day w/lunch? I had a hard time figuring out if the other companies included that. Anyone know how beach time and stuff work if you book through another company? I'm also wondering about transportation. Can anyone tell me where the Disney booked one picks you up and how that works? And what was your experience with transportation with other companies? And LAST question, I swear. :) When should I be booking this excursion for a July cruise? Sorry this is my first cruise so pardon me if I have stupid questions.

I booked 90 days exactly from my date. I booked directly for our encounter and saved about $30.00 per person. We took a taxi from the boat dock and the taxi was $4.00 per person. The man told us history of Nassau on our way to the Blue Lagoon boat dock. When we got to the boat dock we got our tickets and boarded the boat that takes you to the dolphin excursions. You get a lesson first then you go into the water with the dolphins. One group goes in and then another goes in. A boat taakes you back to the boat dock but don't get off because the boat will then take people right back to the ships dock so you don't have to pay for a taxi a second time. It does take about 3 hours. Lunch I don't think was included with either one, Disney or booking on your own. We took sandwiches from room service for lunch so we didn't care if we got lunch from them. We were with someone on the boat that did book through Disney and we were with them at all times so I don't know when they would have gotten lunch. We couldn't go over to the Blue Lagoon Beach Day because the boat leaves right after the excursion so we didn't want to miss our boat back to the ship. Time goes fast so don't plan on doing too much other than the excursion. If you have any questions, e-mail me because I was just there in Sept.

The Disney one does include lunch, but I'm guessing you get it when you use the Beach Day activites. It does say in my pamphlet though that lunch and all the Blue Lagoon Beach Day activities are included with the Dolphin Encounter.

Is it possible to make use of the Dolphin Encounter and Beach Day, since it is included, or is time to tight to fit it all in?

The people you were with who did book through Disney did they have to take a taxi too? We need to avoid taxi's due to carseat issues.

We took a regular taxi for a short ride over to paradise island between the two bridges to catch the ferry. On the way back tell the ferry driver you are from the ship. They make a quick stop at paradise island and will take you straight back to the ship at no extra cost. At least that is how it was in 2003.

We did this on our last cruise.

I stayed with our youngest while everyone else went into the water with the dolphins.

You get strategically placed in a position to photograph the back of their heads.

They have someone taking poor photos there and they will sell them to you. You are stranded there until they get those ready for you to buy before the ferry takes you back to the dock.

If I had to do it again, I would not waste that money.
