Blue card vs white card

I have both a white and a blue card. I got in early enough that that the Blue Card requirement was only 25 points in Nov 2017. I added 25 points in my UY at that time. I paid $129 per point for direct SSR, at that time small contracts were going for $95-100 pp and large contracts for $80-90 pp. So I figure I paid a $750-$1000 premium for 25 points. I have bought 9 gold AP's (members of the household) and been to 3 MM's (18 guests total) on that little contract. For us, it has already more than justified the premium. With the current minimum being a much larger contract at an even higher per point difference, I would not buy a qualifying direct contract today. Folks who bought resale even earlier (pre 2017 I think) have Blue Cards and never had to buy anything direct. Resale only points qualified a person for member benefits and they have been grandfathered in through the ever increasing minimum requirement.
I so wish we had money back then to jump on those deals. I know if Disney ever drops the min down to 50 or under I am soo going to do it.

not saying that this the rule or its just for covid to bring more people in but my friends are alway asked if they are DVC Members and when they reply yes the food discount is given they never ask to see if the card is blue or white I guess its up to the server. when they see the T-shirts and tags on there magic bands its pride of ownership and they have been let in even at Epcot lounge with no trouble
Good to know.

I'm surprised to hear them not checking membership cards for the Epcot lounge. Every time that I've gone, they have asked to see my blue card but like you said, I haven't been back since covid. Could be that the CMs that are not checking aren't the normal CMs that would be working those roles who know to check.

yes i was surprised also but i not surprise at the food discount i have read many people on this site say they have gotten the discount with the white card

Please do forgive my ignorance but what is the white card? I know the blue card is direct DVC thru disney so what is the white? Thanks in advance.

A white card is what you get if your a resale member and have not bought a direct purchase.A direct purchase from disney you get a blue card. which gives you the perks like discount on annual passes food and clothing discounts. Epcot lounge, special after hour parks also special cruises for DVC blue card also you get Adventure by disney and im sure there is a few more thing im missing

Thank you that is what I figured. We just submitted our first contract thru resale so I assume we will get a white card.

yes but remember that you are saving 50% or more off direct pricing and that buys a lot of food and merchandise the other perk are great if you live in or near disney if not you don't get to take advantage of the other stuff unless you flexible but to book 11 months out then hear there is a magic hours for DVC Members it hard change all your plans also annual passes again if you live near disney great if you only go 1 or twice a year again might not be worth it and Epcot to me not a big deal you still get to go to the top of the world at bay lake tho

Wow. 50% or MORE? I don't think most people are getting 50%. Maybe some close to it - if a stripped contract and at certain resorts.

They have been lucky. I have always had to show a card, especially at the Epcot lounge. Since Covid they haven’t asked about my license except at the lounge but not once have I gotten the discounts without producing the card.

I agree. Right now you are saving maybe 35% on SSR given things are alien $100 resale and $165 direct.

The only reason we got the blue card was the ability to get the Gold APs. For a family of 5 that equalled up to 1000s in savings
Could you tell me more about this savings? I am trying to justify a direct purchase but the upfront savings IF the right resale contract is secured are substantial. A little background, we are empty nesters in PA looking at the minimum buy in so if we bought AP's it wouldnt be every year, more like we would bank/borrow to do a Dec trip followed by a Nov or something like that every other year. We have rented points on our past two trips (Jan/Nov 2019) so we are hooked on the deluxe accomodations after about 25 trips in moderates or occasional values. We have the Disney Visa card so some of the perks of direct ownership are attainable using that card.

in November I purchased animal kingdom at 95.00 per point for 185 I think direct is 185 I could be wrong

if you look at the chart you will get an idea of the saving remember this chart is a average selling some went for more and some less I heard of AKL going for as little as 88 dollars a point

Yep we just saved 45% at AKL. Taking out the banked points it’d have been $105 per point vs $189

Blue card has no real benefit these days.
Totally depends on the person. Someone who goes every other year, very likely not worth it for blue card. If someone is getting 4 Gold Passes consistently that is a real benefit.

How much is the savings on a Gold Pass? We would probably not be getting an AP more than every other year

As the prices aren't promoted right now I can just give an estimate of $400. So if you otherwise weren't going during the 3-4 weeks of blackout periods it is a pretty nice savings. We are just a family of 3 so it is even more important with larger families.
