When looking to buy a used car, do I ask the dealer for the blue book value or is it up to me to bring the book with me?

I just went through something similar. I went armed with print outs from Edmunds, and KBB. Edmunds offers several categories, including "True Market Value" (TMV).
Be sure to make all adjustments for mileage, location, condition ect... If you have your ducks in a row, it will be hard for them to argue with your numbers.

... Of course, let them make an offer first. After all, it may be a better price than your homework dictates (but I doubt it! ;) )

Good luck!

Edmunds is a great site! I learned soooo much about buying a new car there. They have such great info.
I would get the values before you go if you know what the car is you are interested in.
Dealerships always want to give you WAY less for your trade in, and then they sell it for the Highest book value.
Best of luck. Buying cars is not my favorite thing to do, but Edmunds sure helped me. I got a great deal on my new Accord.
