Blue Bayuo Split fee question

We have eaten there a long time ago and have avoided it because of the price. How does the split plate thing work? I see that they charge $5 for this; can someone explain?

It's just an extra fee they'll slap on to whatever you're splitting. Say you get the Tesora Island Chicken. They'll bring out two plates, but it'll cost you 5 more.

They also give you a little bit more food on each plate. And if your meal comes with a salad, they each give you a salad. Not a half of the salad.

What about the soup and salad? Do they split that too?

We just did this earlier this month. We split the salmon.....we both got the starter of gumbo (the cups weren't full to the top, but plenty as a starter course), we both had full plates of food....we couldn't even finish it all. We kept going.....this is a split plate??!! It ran us $5.00 to do this & worth it IMO.... we would have wasted a ton of food getting our own entree.

The thing I am wondering, does this apply to desserts too? We will probably end up getting our own entrees, but appetizer and dessert they expect you to order your own? And is it 12 dollar per thing to split (like 12 to split the appetizer, 12 to split dessert so 24 bucks?) or 12 to split it all?

I made a reservation a little over a week ago and they said the split fee was $5. The CM didn't have much more to say about it that is why I'm asking. Just trying to find all the info I can before we go.

What do they do if you just as for an extra plate? Do they force you to do the "split plate" thing and do it for you? We don't need the extra food and we don't need two salads. I'd be splitting my entree with a 7 year old child, who will eat a few bites of this and that, but won't eat 1/2 of anything.

At WDW they allowed me to just order the entree and ask for an extra plate and dish her up some food myself. They didn't charge me.

$5 is not a big deal, but $12 starts to get a bit steep to just cut my food in half and put it on another plate!!

great idea in a way .. thou wouldnt work for my partner and i , she is vegatarian so we wouldnt eat the same main courses anyway

The $5.00 fee was for the entree. We split an appetizer, entree & dessert & was only charged the split fee on the entree dish.

Split fee is to cover restaurant costs that are lost when people share a meal. The cost of cleaning, utilities, employees and everything is used by the person who gets food off of another person's plate via sharing. It is not new to this restaurant and has been seen off site as well.

I would do this too. Plus it's different splitting a plate with another adult than with a 7 year old.

The split plate fee used to be $4 not that long ago and was just bumped up to $5. I really doubt they'll move it up to $12 anytime soon.

I'm pretty sure the $12 was just a goof. Seriously, I cannot imagine them trying to charge $12 to split the food. I agree with the others, just ask for a plate later, if your DD won't eat the sides, starters etc why pay the split plate fee? Seems silly to me.

Did they change it on the menus too? Wow, you might as well just get your own plate.

ETA: I just called Disney Dining and they told me $5. She put me on hold for a couple seconds and was looking in her system. I told her I heard it was $12 and she said that they weren't aware of the increase, but that it did go up from $4 to $5.

Thanks for the info. We will be there tomorrow and just wanted to know what all the options are. To split plate or not to split, I think it sure will save us some money.
