is this a good choice for thanksgiving/ dd's 11th bday dinner? or would you pick another for these occasions?

it will be our 1st trip trip to disneyLAND (speaking of that, gotta change my ticker from disneyWORLD  ), any info/opinions would be great!!

thanks a bunch! :flower3:

Hi, it was good but I think not $$$$$$$ good. It is geared towards adults from my perspective. Fancy and dark. Seriously dark. We ate at Cafe Orleans which had similar food but a lighter atmosphere and was much lighter on our wallets. That may be a fun place for your dd's b-day dinner.

Just my thoughts. Have fun!

THANK YOU! any suggestions for thanksgiving dinner?

#1 - They have a delicious buffet at Storyteller's Cafe at the Grand Californian Hotel. :goodvibes It has a really nice atmosphere and something for everyone.

Alternates:
If you are in California Adventures we liked Wine Country Trattoria. You order off a menu.

We like Disney's PCH Grill at Paradise Pier Hotel. Not a long walk from DL or CA if you cut through the Grand Californian Hotel.

I'm not an expert but we thought all of the above were yummy! :thumbsup2

We did Tgiving dinner 09 at the Jazz Kitchen in DTD. It was amazingly delish!!!!! We all loved it.
As for BB it's my families favorite place to eat, well for a sit down fancy place it is. :) The kids love it (DD10 picked it as her 10th bday meal) and so do DBF and myself. We've had the Monte Cristo (lunch only), the ribs (we didn't like them so much), the chicken (YUM), the NY Roast, and the Filet Mignon, we've loved everything but the ribs, they were too fatty and not tasty. I recommend this place for adults and kids.

We've had the Monte Cristo (lunch only),

Do they still have the Monte Cristo at lunch? I looked at a menu recently on a whim (somewhere online - can't remember where) that said it was from 1/10, and there was no Monte Cristo listed! That is my favorite there.

That said, we do Blue Bayou for the atmosphere, not the food. The food is accesible and cheaper at Cafe Orleans now, and I never really thought it was worth the $$$. But, the totally one of a kind Disney atmosphere, where it is relaxing and quiet, especially if you happen to go in the middle of a hot day, is worth it, IMHO.

If you do go, request a seat by or near the water. It makes a difference.

Yes, the Monte Cristo is currently available on the Blue Bayou's lunch menu. Not on their dinner menu though. Cafe Orleans also serves this entree, and on both their lunch and dinner menu alike.

X2

I would eat there again if I was taking someone who had never been, but would go elsewhere if it was the same crew as last time.

We enjoyed the Jazz Kitchen very much for comparable $$$ and with outdoor seating overlooking DTD the atmosphere was not the same, but very cool.

Cafe Orleans has 2 versions of the Monte Cristo - the same one as Blue Bayou, and also a 3 cheese version (which seemed lighter to me when I tried it). The ambiance is probably better at BB today, but when Rivers of America starts running again it becomes a matter of which view do you prefer.

after going to BB a few times, the food has really become mediocre and not worth it. You're paying for "eating inside pirates" type of thing. Cool the 1st few times, but not worth it for the food you get and the prices they are charging IMO.

Everyone's mileage varies of course. If you've never done it, it's a cool experience to do once, but, I wouldn't do it again until they improve the menu.

Hello, was trying to come up with a comparison if you have been to WDW. If you have, have you eaten at the Coral Reef? Same type of thing as the Blue Bayou (great atmosphere but, food is lacking and pricey) When we do go to WDW with someone new we will eat there just because it is fun to eat with the fish. But, we warn them before hand you have a 50/50 chance for good food and 100 percent chance of spending lots of money.
If Pirate's is your favorite ride, then it's a must. DS alway's asks to eat there for his birthday as it is his favorite ride at Disneyland.

Blue Bayou is my favorite Disney restaurant of all time. I love the ambiance and the surf and turf is very good.

This June will be my DH's and kids' first times dining at the Blue Bayou. Can't wait. :woohoo: Scored first seating this morning!

Happy to hear it, although we will be sticking to Cafe Orleans for our upcoming trip :thumbsup2

thanks! yes, i have been to coral reef....lovelovelove the lobster soup!! they gave me the recipe too!

ok....will keep BB in mind....

My kids and I enjoy BB ~ DS love the rolls. I miss going for dessert only since they took the Cookie Boat off the menu.

DD still doesn't now about her B~day trip, I need to ask her something like ~ "When we go to DLR next where would you like to eat?" I wonder if she'll mention BB....

I love the Blue Bayou! And I highly recommend it! :) Ah... to dine casualy waterside, while watching the pirates cavorting... with the landlubbers! Just watch out for your purse strings for they may end up lighter or all together missing by the time ye are done with your grub! One time a friend of mine not thinking invited one of the pirates over for some libation, well.. next thing you know that scalywag ended up drunk and so did my friend! That was the pirates fault, getting my friend drunk.... So beware!

We are really looking forward to eating at the Blue Bayou for the first time. I booked the earliest lunch time available at 11:30 when they open - of course we want to request a table by the water :thumbsup2

Does anyone know how early we should get there to check in, Right at 11:30 since that is when they open or do they start checking in a few minutes earlier then 11:30?

Thanks!!!

You should get there about 15/20 minutes prior and wait right next to the podium. Past experience has been if you have an 1130 time, you will get waterside unless you have a party larger than 6.
