I have a couple of questions about the Blue Bayou. Last year, we ate lunch at Cafe Orleans and LOVED it. We're going back to DL this summer and plan on eating at the Blue Bayou. My DS is 11, can he order off the kid's menu? He was able to last year at Cafe Orleans.

Blue Bayou seems to be pretty strict judging from the $12 splitting fee. :scared1: I'm hoping they'll be cool about the kid's menu.

Also, I didn't see appetizers on the menu. Are there any besides gumbo and wedge salad? A bread basket..anything? Thanks in advance for the info!

I don't see why they wouldn't let him order off the kids' menu...I just wouldn't make an announcement at the table that he's a big boy now who has to order off the adult menu, y'know?

Actually, the split plate charge includes an extra side dish, and the meal portions being seperated/plated by the kitchen staff. If you want to split the food yourself, at the table, the waitperson should be able to bring plates to do so to your table, free of charge...BUT...you don't each get your own side dish that way.

Sadly, BB no longer has appetizers that can be ordered as seperate dishes; the "appetizers" (technically "side dishes") are now included with the entrees. They do bring out a basket of yummy dinner rolls, though :thumbsup2

You can share a meal without the split plate fee charge. There is bread which is very good. I think they stopped the wedge salad. Many people complain about the price, but I find it no more expensive than any other
eatery like Morton's, Ruth Chris, etc and love the waterside seating and the break from the August heat.

Our server explained that BB policy was that kids meals were for kids 9 and under. He backed off pretty quick after my wife complained and stated that she didn't feel our 12 yo should be forced to order off the adult menu. I think he was more interested in getting a tip than enforcing policy.

We were just there for lunch March 21st and it was so good! Ask for a table by the water so worth it. I don't see why you could not order off the kids menu just don't mention age. They do not have any appetizers but the meals come with gumbo or cajun type salad. I had the salad and it was sooo good. DH had the gumbo also loved it. They did serve bread. Have fun it is now going to be an annual thing for us it was great! We all ordered different things and were all very happy with our meals. MIL had short ribs, I had monte cristo ,and my DH had jumbolaya (sp??). My kids had mac and cheese and chicken pasta also loved everything.

Glad you liked it!. Just wanted to point out that Blue Bayou only serves the Monte Cristo sandwich for lunch, which ends at 4:00. Cafe Orleans (just a few feet up the street from BB) has the Monte Cristo all day, and also has a 3 cheese version (which seems a little lighter to me).

We did BB for DD10's bday, the trip started when she was 9 so she was fine to eat off the kids menu but DD13 also wnated to eat off the kids' menu and the waiter got rude with us about it. He did let her but he was not happy about it. Just tell them your DS is 9, they won't argue then. She had no problems eating off the kids menu any other places. I think he was worried about his tip too, our plan was to tip him as if DD13 had ordered from the adult menu but with his attitude we didn't tip quite as much as we had planned.
