Blue Bayou

Tell me about the Blue Bayou, Would you recommend this restaurant for 2 adults? Any tips or suggestions?

Or is there another restaurant that would be worth trying out?

I've been there once and really liked it. Great atmosphere.

tofubeast,

I don't know whether or not you saw my post on page 2, so I am repeating it here.

The information that you seek, can be found here:

the Blue Bayou's hours of operation, coincide with the parks hours, so therefore will vary, depending upon the season.

Lunch only:
Le Special de Monte Cristo - Turkey, ham and Swiss cheese in a battered egg bread, lightly fried to a golden brown. Choice of two sides: Blue Bayou potatoes, seasonal vegetables or sautéed spinach. $18.99

I don't see any good reason, why a simple request such as yours, could not be accommodated. If I order that dish, it will be without the ham, I like ham, I just am not a big pork eater, thats all.
Last April, I made my reservation for two, three days in advance, no problem, however, seating was limited. So I figure, it all depends upon the season, to which you plan on visiting, however, just to play it safe, I would PS, as soon as I knew when I was going to be interested in dining there, even if it is a dessert only reservation.
They do accept walk up reservations, too, however the wait time, can be extremely long, and one might not be able to be accommodated for that day,
that is why I make ressies.

We love the Blue Bayou!!! Maybe because Pirates is my favorite ride.

The atmosphere is awesome there, and it's fun to eat "outside, at night, in the bayou" when you're really inside during the day in LA!:rotfl2:

We used to go for lunch for the Monte Cristo, but it's too rich for us now, so we go for dinner instead (a more convenient time for us).

We had the Tortuga Trio of Creme Brulees last time and it was fabulous. We still have the edible treasure chest that the cookies came in, too! It was the night Pirates 3 came out in theaters and they gave us souvenier menus and posters for the movie, too.

Ha!Ha! that is so funny and so true! I love it too! :) for you really do feel like you are eating outside of a mansion along the side of the bayou.

I hope that you and your family have a wonderfully great and fun time! this trip, and for all in the future, as well! :) :flower:

Sorry to hijack....but in the topic of BB, we are going in Oct. and I fully intend to make PS arrangements since the last time we were at DL, POTC was down for refurbishments and we werent able to experience any of it.

My question is, how about children? I have 3 and I just want to make sure that its not so nice of a place that people may frown upon me bringing the kiddos....although I must say its friggin Disneyland, if anyone has a problem with kids then they are by all means in the wrong place. :cutie:

Is there a kids menu at all?

Thanks!

That is funny! if people have a problem with kids, they definitely are in the wrong place! I agree.
I just don't like it when a parent runs across my foot, with their stroller, without even realizing it! etc ;)

I just wanted to add, that for as long as your children know their manners, as I am sure that they do, there should be no problem whatsoever.
Matter of fact, sometimes in general, it is the adult, that needs a time out more often in comparison to many children that I have seen over the years in our society.

I wouldnt have it any other way. :) My girls will be 10 and 11, so no biggie there. Little man will be almost 2 but he should be fine as well.

Sad but definitley true.

I took my 3yoDD, 4yoDS, 5yoDD to lunch there and they loved it. They liked waving at the boats that went by and LOVED the Flying Dutchman:lmao:

Ask for a water side table, that is especially nice. The little guy, I think will have fun there even more so, for it it easier to see everything that there is.
One might even be able to point out the fireflies at the bayou. :)

Most definitley!! I know you can call and get PS up to 60 days in advance, but do I need to wait until I actually get there to request a water side table or ask for that when I make the PS arrangements?

Thanks so much!!

You are most welcome indeed! :flower:
You most likely can make a request, for a water side table, at the time of your ps call, and you can most definitely ask for such, at the time of your arrival. One might have to wait a little while, or it could be just 5 minutes or less, If your dining experience is to be during the weekday, and it is not a holiday, or summer rush time, you probably won't have to wait very long, if at all.
I called just a few minutes ago, but the offices are closed. However, based upon a very nice conversation with the operator, in addition to what I already knew, I would say that the above is quite accurate, to say the least. I rather have in mind to call tomorrow, to verify my thinking, for sometimes policies change.

We actually found that DS did better *away* from the water. Near the water he wanted to climb the railing and stand near the railing (had to switch him to a highchair b/c of that), but he was able to sit in his regular chair this last time, since there wasn't that big interesting "river" going by.

Avoid their mac and cheese at all costs. Nuclear orange and disgusting. DS didn't take one bite, but I did, and I regretted it.

kids should also avoid the citrus drumettes with noodles. EAch of my 2 kids lasted for exactly one bite on this dish.

My recommendation if the food is important to you is to save your money and eat elsewhere. Wine Country Trattoria is much better food and cost about half the price. Napa Rose costs about the same as BB, but much better food. We also love Ralph Brennan's Jazz Kitchen (upstairs dining room) in DD. Plus, Catal is supposed to be wonderful.

The only reason to go to BB is for the atmosphere and it is worth doing at least once for that. I thought that my kids might be disappointed to not be going this trip, but they told me they didn't like the food anyway and that they could get the experience by going on the Pirates ride and waving to the diners.

If you do go to BB, order safe. Monte Cristo, shortribs, prime rib. Avoid the mahi mahi at all cost. It was described as being on a bed of spinach. Instead of nice warm spinach, it was served on cold pieces of torn up romaine lettuce. The mahi mahi itself was dry and fishy tasting. It did come with two shrimp that were tasty. Honestly, I don't know why they just didn't do the shrimp as a dish and avoid the rest of it. The flying dutchman dessert was good, but it was one of those brownie/ice cream sundae desserts that you can eat all over the place, just a little more intriguing looking.

Lunch for the 4 of us with tip came out to about $160 a year and a half ago just to give you an idea of the price.

I made reservations at The Blue Bayou for our upcoming trip. I am so excited.....Thanks for the menu ...does anyone have any pictures of the resturant ???

Agreed on the mahi mahi. It was not great. I did get it on spinach, but it was weird-- just a bed of cold dry spinach, as if they'd pulled a handful out of one of those prewashed bags, plopped it on the plate and slapped a piece of overcooked fish on it. Which, I guess, is probably what they did. The menu sounds so yummy, but the reality of the food is very overpriced, especially for the haphazard cooking.

I'll do it again in Oct., though, for lunch, and try to get waterside. The ambiance is way cool.

Hubby really liked the portobello dish that we split, but me, not so much. We both LOVE the wedge salad (without sausage), but then it's hard to go wrong with a big hunk of iceberg (other lettuce is great, too, but there's just something about iceberg) and their ranch dressing with blue cheese all over it....yum. Gourmet? Not so much. :rotfl:

And on this last trip the three of us could write a symphony about how good their rolls were.

Oh and my son's birthday scoop of vanilla ice cream was delish.

But was it worth what we paid? Not the food, but the atmosphere oh yes.

We both LOVE the wedge salad (without sausage),

Did you know the sausage is chicken?

I ordered something w/o the sausage because I don't eat pork, then found some in something else one of us ordered. When we asked about it, the waiter told us it was chicken sausage. I said "well, if I'd known that, I wouldn't have ordered mine w/o it". (said in a friendly, joking way with a smile on my face, not in a rude way.) A moment later he brought me a little cup of the stuff. :lovestruc
