Blue Bayou - lunch or dinner questions

First off - I thought I read somewhere you can order the Monte Cristo for dinner even though it's not on the menu. True or False?
(I don't want to tell DH about the MC if he can't get it and we're doing dinner when we go - but that IS one of his all time favorite sandwiches.)

Second - why does everyone keep saying lunch is cheaper than dinner there? When I look at the two menus on allearsnet.com the prices are identical - to the penny!
The ONLY difference I see is they list the Monte Cristo for lunch and the Fillet Mignon for dinner. Other than that one swap out, the entrée choices are identical as are the desserts.

I don't think it's cheaper for lunch, the only difference is you can get the MC. And no, you can't get it for dinner, only lunch. So, if it's DH's favorite sandwich ever go for lunch instead of dinner. :)

Thanks. I just won't mention it to him! He's the one that wanted to eat dinner there.

I don't get why people post that frequently here about lunch costing less than dinner. I've seen it quite a bit reading various posts.

I've also read that people request the water seating when they make their PS/ADR -- not possible. The agent was very clear that they were not allowed to enter that on the reservation - that they could get in trouble for doing it. I acutally asked 3 different CM on different days just to see if I got a different answer.

I know this doesn't answer your questions but just thought I would add that you can also get the Monte Cristo at Cafe Orleans, and it's cheaper! And I think you can get it at lunch or dinner. (someone please correct me if I'm wrong about that). So if your DH wanted a MC you could always go to CO for a different meal.

You are correct. My friend and I split a MC and an order of Pommes Frittes for dinner ther in March.

The reason everyone thinks that Blue Bayou is cheaper at lunch is because it used to be prior to this year. Their menu and food has changed this year (FOR THE BETTER!!!) and a lot of people have yet to experiance the change. Just to throw out a suggestion, the new Short Ribs are to die for. The steak is still... ehhh.

Last Sept we did make ressies for lunch and requested waterside table. We did get waterside, but it was near that boat and trees. So it was waterside, but with things blocking the view of water.

Ah ha! Thank you. now I understand! ;)

And, I agree, the Short Ribs are delish! I had them last spring. I'll probably have them again.

Actually the CM you need to request waterside from is the CM at BB when you're checking in. Let them know you're more than fine waiting for the table and remember that your "reservation" isn't an actual reservation, it's basically calling ahead 60 days to put your name on the list. LOL You may still have a wait and you may wait longer for waterside. But it is worth it. :)

And yes, Cafe Orleans has the MC on their dinner menu, make 2 ressies, one for BB, one for CO and he can have his MC there for either lunch or dinner. :)

We requested waterside on the phone, 60 days inadvance and made a 11am time, got there at that time, and got our table, just not exactly on the water.

I don't know if this is helpful or not, but...

I've heard that sometimes the CM will tell you that a waterside table won't be ready for an hour or more; it's like the CM is hoping that you will choose to sit elsewhere. I think that's what pixiewings71 is referring to.

I have heard that after the CM tries this, they will come out a few minutes later and tell you that your waterside table is ready.

Hope this helps.

I think that maybe it helps to book at 11:30. We had 11:40 reservations, and it looked to me like they were filling the restaurant from the waterfront tables back. There were no empty spaces--we were in the second row of tables, then the third row got filled, all the way back to the front of the restaurant. Maybe that makes it easier for the waiters?

I agree, the short ribs were very good (though not quite hot enough for me). I loved the potatoes though! If I weren't going on a diet on Monday, I'd try to make them.

Was it worth $80 for two people? No way, but it was an experience. I'm glad we went, but if we're ever in DL again, we'll eat fast food.

And to add about cafe Orleans :) they offer 2 MC's one regular turkey ham cheese and a 3 cheese with fruit.... yum :thumbsup2 BB only has regular on their menu and comes with potatoes and asparagus.

Now I'm really confused. I thought Cafe Orleans was counter service. You can make priority seating? Is it a sit down, wait forever if you don't restraunt?

I don't want to have to deal with reservations and a set time to eat everyday.

Cafe Orleans you should get PS for. You might be thinking French Market around the corner? FM is counter service and has live music thru the day.
I think I paid 12.99 for the MC @ CO the other day and 21.99 for the MC @ BB yesterday. Yep I had 2 MC in 2 days LOL

Disney's website doesn't have Cafe Orleans listed as a PS restaurant. Is it possible that it is and the Disney website doesn't have it listed?

CO is a PS restaurant, but we were able to walk up yesterday with a party of 2 and we were seated in less than 5 minutes. They told us 20 but it was immediate.

French Market is near CO and it's very good, I love the 4 cheese pasta they have, YUM!

Now I am confused and have been there many times. We were told that the earliest was 1130 and she did add us for waterside but it is not a shoe in, have to show up early and request again.

Just curious if there are any suggestions on eating at the BB for lunch vs dinner? Is the food so heavy that it's hard to go right back into Park Commando? I'm concerned about doing a heavy lunch and then being miserable the rest of the day.
