We are going to the BB for an early dinner next week... mostly for the apmosphere (pirates!) not really the food. I looked on line at their menu, and I dont see ONE SINGLE THING that I think I'd like! YIKES! I am a boring foodie I guess. Anyone have suggestions for someone who likes plain-jane, boring, non-fish, non-spicey food?? And after all this hub-bub... should we request a certain area to sit? Thanks!

Or, to make yourself feel less guilty, get a nice healthy salad, and then DESERT!;)

Just kidding, but you could order the chicken, short ribs, or the beef whatever it's called (I can't remember if it's steak, or prime rib, or roast, or what). Those dishes are fairly normal dinner fare.

Request a table by the water, or a secondary table by the water.

Have fun!

just get dessert!

:thumbsup2 I agree! I am planning on doing this when we go next summer. I'm just going to make a late ressie and we'll just have dessert. That way we get to enjoy the atmosphere, but I don't have to worry about spending a lot of money on a meal that I'm not sure we would all enjoy.

I can be pretty picky too and I absolutely loved the Monte Cristo. I'm not usually into food like that but man I loved it! LOL DBF had the pork tenderloins, good and not too seasoned at all.

Another vote here for DESSERT! We made reservations the last time we ate there and just had dessert. I'm always way too full after dinner to enjoy one of the fabulous desserts so this worked great! A great way to enjoy the atmosphere without the high cost of dinner!

OK, now that I don't have a grabby kiddo on my lap, I'll type more. And capitalize when I can.

We had every intention of having had a lunch before our BB reservations (11:30am...I was actually the very first person to get a reservation when I called so you know I got a waterside table), and then we were just going to share a cookie boat.

And then my brother joined us, I spent a good 40 minutes waiting for him instead of snagging food, then we went on some rides, and almost missed checking in for the reservations. So...we ended up being hungry.

DH and I are vegetarian, and there's only one choice for us on the menu (portobello mushroom dish). We did split that, and with the split plate fee we each got a salad which was actually quite good (had to request it without the sausage), and if they have a full version of their wedge salad, I can recommend it. The mushroom, however, was drenched in vinegar, and not all that enjoyable. Part of that was my fault, as I could barely see my plate and sopped up the balsamic plate decoration instead of picking around it.

DS absolutely refused to touch his kid's mac and cheese, and when I got a lot at that dayglo mess in the daylight, and especially when I had a taste, I did not fault him one little bit. Ick.

My brother is an omnivorous marathon runner, and he really enjoyed the monte christo sandwich, though he only ate half the bread (all the meat filling, though). No veggies for him but the potato gratin they had along with the white asparagus.

I paid, and with the AP discount it was still over $80.

And only ONE of us enjoyed their full meal. :sad2:

It would have been much better to let my brother eat what he wanted, but to just go with our plans and order dessert. We would have been happier.

So if just ordering dessert, or begging a big salad from them, will make you happier than paying for something you won't like, then do it. :)

When I got my salad wedge last week, I had ranch dressing with it and they served it on the side. I liked it so much better that way because they really do drown the lettuce with the other dressing. Sometimes I order a Monte Cristo that only has cheese on it, like they serve over at Cafe Orleans. They will give it to you at the BB if you ask, no problem. However, I don't believe that Monte Cristos are on the dinner menu.

Can someone please tell me what is on the wedge salad? Has anyone had the gumbo?

When I had the ranch dressing, there was nothing on the wedge salad. Next to it was a slice of tomato, some cheese, avocado, and sausage. I've had the gumbo, and it is a bit too spicy for me, it has the sausage in it too, but it is good, just warm "spice-wise".

I am a very picky eater and hate most foods if they're not plain. I just loved the Tesero Island chicken. I also liked the wedge salad it came with and I hate salads lol. The potatoes that came with the chicken were to die for so delicious. Just to show you how picky I am, I hated the creme brulee. So if you're as picky as me and you eat meat I think you'll like the island chicken. It's not spicy, at least it wasn't when I had it. Hope that helps.

And for the person that asked about the gumbo, dh tried it and loved it. He said it was better than the one at..shoot I forget the name of the other restaurant in new orleans square. But he said it was better than that one. I don't like gumbo so I couldn't tell you.

Don't order the mahi mahi. It was horrid.

My husband had the prime rib. It was more salty than spicy and was very good. Not anything to write home about, but definitely very good.

One quick experience to share... I was at Blue Bayou for dinner the first weekend in October and watched in amazement as they removed a couple from the dining area when they stated they did not want to order a full meal. They asked if they could just split and appetizer and get dessert and the waiter seemed dumbstruck. He then went and got the manager who told them they had to order entrees. They chose to leave. I don't share this as a definite end-all, be-all response, just as a curious happening I witnessed. Perhaps this happened because it was a very busy Saturday night.

On a different note, the Braised Short Ribs were delicious, tender, and not overly spiced. I was quite surprised at how nice they were. :)

We were there last Monday. I loved the wedge salad, though it had lots of ranch on it (I love it so it didnt bother me one bit. ) It had avocado, tomato slices, a little pile of blue cheese, and ham cubes. DH and DSS had the Jambalaya. DH cleaned his plate, and DSS said that the waitress took his plate a little too soon. I choose the Monte Cristo. It was very rich. Loved the potatoes. Between DH and I, I dont think that we ate a 1/3 of the sandwich. We are so glad that we went, just for the experience. We were so full, we didnt get dessert.
