Blu-Ray Question?

DD10 has a Blu-Ray a gift from grandma last year she has not used it to its full potential as we have not purchased actual Blu-Rays. Hubby and I are purchasing 2 Blu-Rays on BF =) My question is more about the Blu-Ray DVDs do all of them automatically come with digital copies?? I want to get a few Blu-Ray dvds BF as well and if they all come with digital copies THATS a HUGE plus I will then be able to add their fav movies to their ipods

No, they don't all by default come with digital. Some do (Disney likes to package BluRay+DVD+UV digital in some cases), but not always. I'd say it's not even that often... maybe 10%.

Some titles are sold as Blu-Ray only and also as combo Bluray, DVD and digital copy.

I agree with the pp (not sure if it's exactly 10%) but most movies seem to have a BRD only (without a digital copy or DVD) version available at a lower cost then available combos.

Just to be clear, my 10% figure is only an empirical estimate. In particular, I mean that to say that while some do include it, by and large most don't.

Some companies just don't do it. Like the PP said, Disney is one that tends to have a digital copy and usually a DVD. When Blu-Rays first came out it seamed like most included a digital copy. That could have been because only a few production companies (like Disney) were producing Blu-Rays. Now pretty much everyone produces Blu-Ray.

Just to clarify, a Bluray is not a DVD. They are two separate things, so calling them a Bluray DVD is both incorrect and could confuse people.

There are ways you can save your Blurays as digital copies and then transfer them onto your portable devices, but it requires some extra software. You can Google it. Some would consider it less than legal, others would say you bought it you own it why not? Your choice.

As to what's inside any Blu-ray package is largely dependent upon how the studio packages them.

Most of the ones priced $12 or less generally have only one Blu-ray disc and nothing else.

Many "family features" might have both a Blu-ray Disc and DVD (the DVD is usually intended for players in the kids' room or the player in the backseat of the mini-van).

As digital copies go, they are becoming more mainstream (thanks to mobile devices) and some companies (Disney, in particular) are now bundling these with their more expensive packages, which often include a Blu-ray 3D disc.

The number of discs doesn't really tell you either, as often a 3rd disc is bonus features, or a 3d version. You have to read the package on every one, to see if actually specifies digital version on it.
Most of the Black Friday cheap blu-ray's will most likely not have digital copies.

Keep in mind that Disney will no longer have their digital version available after 12-31. So if you buy Disney blue-rays with the digital version upload them to Itunes before the end of the year.

You will still be able to upload to itunes after 12-31 you just will not be able to steam from on-line.
