BLT- The Naked Truth

Why is it every couple of weeks somebody starts up a new thread about how horrible the conditions where at BLT?

I mean, seriously, what's the point?

Have I stayed at BLT? Yes.

Where there scratches on the table and the dresser? Yes, including a rather large nasty one on the table.

Was there the remnants of a stain in one corner of the carpet? yes.

Did it affect my vacation one iota? Nope.

I wish I could attribute this quote to the right person but I'm forgetting it right now..... Life is 10% what happens to you and 90% how you react to it.

I could walk around the Magic Kingdom, EPCOT, Hollywood Studios, Animal Kingdom, and every other room / resort on property and look for what's wrong - and believe me, I could find far worse than what these people report at BLT - or I could enjoy the time with my family.

You are totally missing the point though. The people complaining actually own a share in BLT. It's the value of their investment that is being affected as well as their vacation.

I own at BLT too.

But let's not kid ourselves. The only "value" to our investment is the ability to stay at the MK each year for a predetermined cost.

See the threads about how much resale contract prices have dropped.

I understand the "I'm just happy to be here" philosophy, but if the actual condition of the rooms isn't anything to worry about, it's difficult to understand why threads about the condition of the rooms would be particularly troublesome. IMHO, YMMV, etc...

I see a different point.

Disney is miss leading the public. They take you on a tour at BLT where the AC works, the rooms are never slept in, cleaned nightly, and finger prints removed from the cabinets. They have a special cleaning crew who cleans the path for the tour several times a day.

Unless you read forums like the DIS, prospective owners would never know what they are really buying. An interest in a resort that has design problems, and in the short time that it has been open, more than normal wear.

The owners are going to have to pay for repairs and people are buying BLT because of the low dues. As I wrote over a year ago, IMHO as soon as BLT sells out, Disney will be increasing the dues to cover the cost of more than normal on going repairs.

I think I will e-mail the DVC Member Satisfaction Team to notify them of the issues. I'm not sure if they are aware of these problems so I'll give them the opportunity to address them.

Fairly new OKW owner here...the stains on carpets, furniture ect. What is Disney's policy on them...if a child (or adult) spilt a large amount would the come and clean it if called. I know that I have called at hotels when my kids have made a large mess allowing cleaning staff to get to it before it sets so to speak. With mousekeeping on the trash and towel ect would they come?

I don't own BLT, nor am I likely to stay there.
That said, part of my enjoyment while at Disney is a nice, clean, and well maintained room that truly reflects Disney quality. If a resort doesn't meet that standard, I would be upset about it and may post it here.

I bought a watermelon a couple of years ago when we were staying at OKW. It got put on the dining area table in the morning and since we didn't need the table until the next day did not get moved. The following morning I noticed a smell and then saw liquid on the table and unfortunately on the carpet. When I picked up the watermelon I found it had apparently exploded enough to let the liquid out. I called mousekeeping and explained the situation and asked if they had some type of rug cleaner as it was starting to smell really bad. They thanked me for calling and while we were out for the day they came and cleaned that section of carpet . I think they would rather deal with something like that when it happens rather than have a mess dry and then try to clean it.

Good to know that they would come. We had our first stay at OKW in March 2010. We didn't notice any wear and tear on the studio. Maybe we were wearing our rose coloured glasses considering we are used to staying at CBR. We were so happy with our room it was the final decission to push DH into purchasing. Maybe if more members who have the spills were to call much like the PP there would be less stains for members to be concerned about.

I for one bought and paid premium dollars to own and stay at a "new" resort with the expectations of Disney standards being set forth. I will be staying at BLT in December and see for myself the condition. I hope all guests who experience very worn conditions, air conditioners not working, doors broken etc... are reporting them to the satisfaction team or whoever will take action. If enough people report problems they are more likely to start fixing the problems while the are under some sort of warrenty and before the resort sells out and all the "problems" become BLT owners expense in dues increases!

As I mentioned earlier, I wonder if the furniture is being abused or if it's cheap quality. The entire table top of our dining room table was scratched up. It almost looked like someone took a fork and drew circles for about an hour. The stains all over the couch didn't develop on their own. It appears as if a 2 liter coke was poured over the arm rests and seat cushions. If DVC members and/or cash guests are abusing the property, shame on you. :headache: We need to take care of our DVC Homes because they are going to be in use for the next several decades. Let's all respect these resorts and enjoy our investments. ;)

This is very irritating that guests would do this.. I suspect it is not DVC members but the people renting the rooms for cash. I sure hope that we don't have to pay for damages caused when they rent rooms for cash like that.

We just stayed there last week and the table was scratched as well. FYI, the shower dripping has happened in every room we have stayed in even when it was new. The only way I have found to deal with it is to turn on the hot water through the shower head above and let it run a bit, then divert it back.. At least then it drips warm water while you are taking a shower.

Thank you!

I did send the DVC Member Satisfaction Team an e-mail today. I received an automatic reply saying that I would receive feedback in 3 business days or less. I'll let everyone know what I hear.

WOW really.....people set the AC lower than 73 degrees!?!?!? Anyone else feel that is a little extreme? Doesn't shock me with 9 people in the room and I believe the AC has a motion sensor setting. The sensor thing does bother me as I don't like coming back on a hot day or waking up at night (or from a miday nap) and have the AC not running at all.

On the condition of the rooms I totally agree, we don't let that stuff bother us, as long as it is clean for the most part we are good. We stayed in Oct 2009 in a 2 br and I was shocked at the wear and tear already. Although I don't expect prestine all the time but I also realize we are not paying to stay at the motel 6 either. It did not effect our stay and really didn't bother me but for staying within a few months of opening here are some observations I posted way back in Oct 2009:

VERY SHOCKED on how beat up the rooms already are for only being open a few weeks. The kitchen island had a chunk out of the wood as well as the dinning seating area. Walls with scrapes on them, and carpet was looking worn. Light tan couch already had lots of stains and actually looked dirty and kind of nasty, it looked like college students had it for a year then gave it to BLT. I'm not saying it all had to be replaced but at this rate WOW it will need to be in another year or so....or I assume people will be posting that BLT needs a rehab.

I swear when anyone in the building flushes the toilet you can hear it.

I love the place but also worry about what it is going to look like in the near future. I don't own at BLT but still when I stay there I hope it doesn't look like completely beat up. I think much of it is materials and color choices. We didn't have any mechanical issue just cosmetic.

Nope, not extreme at all. We lower our AC at home to 68 when we go to bed. And everybody's tolerance is different.

WOW - I think ours is extreme when we set at 75. It was 74 downstairs this morning at my kids said they were cold - and we live in Wisconsin so we are use to it being cooler not warmer. We do set it at 68 but that is in the winter time:rotfl:

We actually had maintenance by pass the motion sensor which had to be reset every 48 hours. Although we set the room thermostat on 65 degrees, it ran nonstop for 5 days and the room never got cooler than 73 degrees. We had to keep the curtains closed during the day with all lights out just to be able to sit in the room without sweating. On a different note, I received a phone call this morning from the DVC Member Satisfaction Team apologizing for the poor air conditioner and furnishings. They said the issue would be addressed and thanked me for making them aware of the issues. I will be returning to Bay Lake Tower in 2 weeks so we will see if any changes were made.

Boy and I getting worried. We stayed in a 1 bdrm in Oct. I guess all was still too new to have these issues. I have a large family vacation coming in Oct at a Grand Villa at BLT. I will be so disappointed and embarressed if it is in the condition discribed here and on other threads. We have been bragging to our family how nice the DVC is and this is not how you want to to learn otherwise. I do hope DVC/Disney is looking into these issues. I had e-mailed Members Satisfaction on these issues a few weeks ago and got a nice return phone call and they said this was not an issue and if there were any problems they were being handled. I reported this here and another poster said their main job in Member's Satisfaction was to say whatever they need to make the members feel better and their concerns addressed....smjj
