BLT Studio

I hear they are going to give BLT members a big key to open up the room at night. Kind of like sardines in a can.

Funny....Hopefully I am atill laughing next week when we check into a BLT studio. I have been on the waitlist for months for a 1 BR......:goodvibes

It seems a little small because it is broken up with the kitchen, but it is still the size of an average hotel room
But it is smaller than other DVC studios. We were at BWV in a studio, then moved to BLT in a studio..then after three nights, moved to VWL in a studio. The studio at BLT was much smaller.
BUT....I found the storage was much better at BLT. I even liked the kitchen/vanity area setup..and I was prepared to hate it. My dd (16) and I shared the bed, dh took the sofa bed. He was fine with it. The larger balcony was nice to have....almost happy to give up some space in the room for that extra room outside. I loved having more room in the tub area...most DVC studios are cramped in the tub area.
I really thought they were pretty innovative when it comes to getting storage places. There was a lot more storage than I expected. And we were able to just put our luggage beside the connecting room door...kept them out of the way quite nicely.

Yes, the studio at BLT is smaller than other studios, but we really had no issues whatsoever. It's fine for a few nights...more than 3 or so, and I wouldn't do it.

Oh no.... we will be staying at a BLT studio in December for 8 nights! 2 adults and two DD's 7 & 2. I hope by DH doesn't rethink our purchase of DVC when we arrive at the small BLT studio.

...unless he is thinking about an add-on so you can get 1-bedrooms! :thumbsup2

Wow people... you would think that the size of the BLT studio room is smaller than an all-star room the way people complain about it... is it smaller than most of the other studios... yes... is it so tiny that you are constantly bumping into people... no... We spent time in them with my wife, and two kids (4+7 also) and were fine. fold up the bed in the morning and you have plenty of room.

IMHO, it is small. We stayed for 2 nights last summer (2 adults, 2 tweens) and found it to be almost comically tight quarters. We enjoyed the resort a lot, but really were disappointed in the studio. But, lesson learned, we know to book a 1-bedroom next time!

Ugh!! Tried to book a 1 bdrm at the BLT for next May...to no avail. Had to book a studio....and now you've got me worried it'll be too snug, even tho it's just me and DH!! :confused3 Oh well, it's a good thing he's my CuddleBug!!:lovestruc

And find it plenty big for us. Wouldn't want to do it with more people though. You and the hubby should be fine.
Nancy:thumbsup2

We stayed last year in a studio with our two girls. They were almost 5 and 3.5 at the time for 3 nights. For us, it was fine. We didn't spend much time in the room so it wasn't really a big deal....it is the size of an average hotel room as the pp mentioned. Couldn't beat the 45 points total for the three nights :)

I agree with you. We stayed in a studio for 5 nights over 4th of July. My kids just turned 2 and 4 in July. We had no problem with the size of the studio, but we don't hang out in the room. We get up and go to the parks and come home late at night.

We did stay in a 1 BR for a week in May, but my mom came with us so we needed more space. However, I felt that was TOO big with just the 4 of us and seems like a waste of points (but I loved the washer and dryer).

Well it is in a sense smaller than All Star rooms because almost a third of your space is taken by kitchen/storage/washroom area.

All Stars is around 290sqft and BLT is as you said 339sqft.
If we are conservative and take 1/4 of the space as kitchen/storage/washroom that means 255sqft is the sleeping, sitting, and bathroom space. Which is smaller than AS.

Plus the beds in the BLT studio are larger than the ones in the All Stars room. Two doubles vs one queen and one double sleeper sofa.

We stayed in a studio last Jan for 4 nights. When I made the ressie it was just going to be me DH and DS 19. Well DS wanted to bring his DGF along!:scared1: Needless to say it was AWKWARD due to the proximity. DGF and I shared the pullout, which was very comfy, IMHO. Your children are small enough that you should be just fine. Enjoy, it's a beautiful resort and it's proximity to MK is awesome!:thumbsup2

Everyone thank you very much for your input. The studio does seem small but we did well during our last visit at AKL so we shall see.

Very happy to have choices!

I stayed in a BLT studio, SV, with 2 13 yo boys, my DS and his friend. We did fine and wouldn't hesitate to stay there again. They slept in the same bed without complaint. Actually if they had complained - they would have been left at home. LOL They realize how lucky they are to even be there. We only pulled the sleep sofa out for sleeping. When they were up it went away. All our clothes got hung up on hangers, only underwear, socks and bathing suits went in drawers. Luggage was in the closet, laptop fit very nicely in the safe.

The more organized you are - the better your stay will be. Have a great time.

We just came home and spend our first 2 nights with our Irish Twins girls that are almost 2 and 3. It was VERY small for us. We couldn't even keep our double stroller in the room with us. Also, the bathroom door just slides and doesn't lock at all, so they were always in there. On the plus side, the location and view was wonderful! So, if you are staying for a few days, you will enjoy. You also may not have a stroller to worry about.
Enjoy

Well folks it seems we will be going the 1 BR route. I was hopeing to "rough" it for seven nights in a studio, thats what we would probably do in a regular hotel. After the DW (I am getting used to these abreviations.) looked at some pictures and a short clip on youtube of the studio she wanted the 1 BR.

We are staying for seven nights. Only LV available, hate to burn up all points at once but then again it will be our first DVC trip!:cool1:

Thanks for all of the input here folks, greatly appreciated!

:cool1: The BLT 1 bedrooms are awesome!! Congratulations and the perfect introduction to DVC!! Our first stay, we booked a 2 bedroom for 8 nights at BCV and never looked back!:cloud9:

You guys are scaring me now. :scared1: I toured the BLT model before buying a very small contract (60 pts). I bought it because I loved the location and studio layout! I normally travel solo, but a friend and I occasionally go together. She was with me when we toured and agreed that the studio work for the two of us Consequently we'll be spending five nights there in December. Now I'm worried about luggage storage, especially two Owners Lockers

Worry not. There is plenty of room to put luggage, owners lockers, etc. just right in front of the connecting door to the adjacent 1-bedroom. I had two LARGE suitecases and my travel companion had two as well. They stacked up very nicely and out-of-the-way right in front of that connecting door.

I was worried about the same thing, where to put everything. There was room.

We just stayed at a studio at BLT at the end of July, and I agree with many other posters - it's very small.

It felt WAY smaller than our AKV value studio.

For the two of us, it was fine. But I don't think we'd want to try it with others along.

I was also really annoyed that there was NO full length mirror anywhere in the whole room! How's a girls supposed to check out her outfit and shoes before going out to dinner?!?!

So are any of the DVC studios any good for a family of four?

If not for DVC we would most definately do regular hotel rooms. They are small but doable. Is it possible at any other studio except BLT?

We often stay in studios all over DVC with our family of 4 and it is very do-able. A few years back, the 4 of us split a month long stay all in studios, 2 weeks each at BCV and SSR. The BLT studio floorplan is very different than all the other studios in the system. It's less about sq. footage than how the space is laid out.

The size, for me, had nothing to do with having too many people. I stayed for 3 nights solo last September and kept scraping walls getting in and out of bed and finally used an ink pen to measure the space and it was 1.5 ink pens from the wall! The sofa is the same distance from the bed.
I agree about the storage, there is plenty and much more of it in the kitchenette area, and the indentation for the lock off door is where I put the OL.

We love the AKV value studios in contrast. It is small, but not cramped. There is at least 30 inches of space between the bed and the sofa bed, enough for a regular size nightstand. There is a double sink vanity with shelving, there is 2 full length mirrors, the kitchenette is separated from the vanity area the bathroom door has hooks and locks. There are resort-specific sheers on the windows. Plus the views are great in 80% of the Value studios. We have yet to receive anything but a Savannah view in multiple stays.

Not bashing, just comparing a Value studio to any BLT studio and you wonder why DVD did what they did at BLT.

BLT is one of my homes, and I have enjoyed my stays there, just would not do it with a family of 4.
