BLT Studio floorplan -- odd bathroom?

What were they thinking with that bathroom/kitchen design?? I can't imagine entering a kitchen area with unwashed hands ... or the thought of blow drying my hair in the kitchen ... or the mess of personal products that will sit out on the vanity sharing space with food prep. Uuuuugh.

That's what I thought. I like to wash my hands before leaving the bathroom.

We've mostly stayed at the Yacht Club and the coffee makers are always on the bathroom sink counters and we never really thought anything of making coffee while I was shaving or she was doing her hair.:confused3

that's a good point. They are generally in the bathroom in normal hotels (not talking WDW, but anywhere) too, and I've never thought much of it there, either.

I saw this post last night and it took me awhile to find the spot to see it (couldn't figure it out based on that floorplan) and then I was too weirded out to comment...but on the site there's a slide-show thing you can play, where you can navigate through a 2 bedroom model, and you can see it there.

Yep, I think it's absolutely idiotic. Aside from the obvious hair issues, what about the fact that you can't wash your hands immediately after using the toilet before handling the door?! :crazy2: Unless you wash them in the tub... and I'm quite certain NO DVC member ever suggested THAT alternative!

Actually, if you study the studio floorplans the majority of the bathrooms at most of the DVC resorts have a split with the toilet & tub together in one room and the sink / vanity are outside - so you still have to open the door to wash your hands. The exceptions to this split bath layout are OKW, HHI & VB studios. The VB Inn Rooms have the split bath layout. We prefer the split bath layout as one person can be showering or using the toilet while the rest of us can be getting ready at the sink with whatever we have to do. I just don't like it being placed 2 feet from the kitchenette in this case.

I saw the BLT model at the DTD in Woodfield. It was a strange setup. I remember thinking it was very narrow between the vanity and the kitchen counter. Larger people might find it kind of uncomfortable - way too crowded!

I toured the model at SSR and thought the same thing. And that's why they can't turn it around and put it in the tub room. Not enough space for the sink in the bathroom AND the kitchen. My first thought? Designed by a man. (Sorry, guys, just a fact of life sometimes. ;) )

The only thing I really liked in the studio kitchen was the sliding pantry at the back end of the kitchen area.

Since we don't stay in studios, I won't have to mess with these. The only studio I would stay in would be OKW for the large bathroom and two queen beds.

Sigh. This seems to be DVC's (and DVC CMs) standard response for lots of stuff these days. I'm afraid I might have blurted out, "Name one!"

Did any of you guys request it? Anyone? No? And I sure didn't. They need a new excuse.

I think they actually had a focus group weigh in on this design: would you rather have the kitchenette and bathroom vanity in shared space or just a bathroom vanity in the room and a communal kitchen available downstairs next to the laundry room? Apparently, a majority of members wanted the kitchenette IN the room! -- Suzanne

:lmao:

Or maybe they said the kitchen could be in the bathroom with the tub and toilet or outside with the bathroom sink.

The messed up in the bathroom of the 1 b/r too. I pointed it our to my tour guide and she didn't seem to take my member comment seriously enough to force a change in layout. What a shame, too, it's such an easy fix.

What is this error? You know how in most 1 b/r's you can lay back in the tub, open the shutters, clutch the remote control and watch TV at the same time? In BLT the faucet is on the wrong end of the tub!

I totally agree, its weird..totally turned me off when I toured it.

I gotta say that I really liked the new bathroom layout in the BLT studio, and seem to be in the minority.

But that may have something to do with me not using the kitchen much when I stay in a studio. Aside from keeping drinks cool in the fridge, I don't know the last time I used the kitchen sink or even the microwave.... for me I was more impressed with the sleek, modern look of the room, thats what really got my attention :)

We just joined DVC and own at BLT...I don't know that we'll use the kitchenette that much since we'll most often be in a 1BR or 2BR unit, but anything is better than being in a hotel room. Coffee maker is in the bathroom. We've had to wash dishes in the bathroom sinks before. I see the studio as having a nice counter space with a dedicated kitchen sink...the vanity has it's own seperate counter and sink. The only problem I see is the spraying of hairspray, perfume, etc., but a quick wipe doen with a Wet One or Clorax wipe will fix that right up.

I don't mind it at all.

:rotfl2: I know - later, after I'd posted, I thought about that! Somehow, being that close to the food prep area before washing hands feels so wrong, though. But I still plan on styaing there at some point, so maybe it won't feel so bad in person.
