So my first question was going to be what does BLT stand for, but I figured that one out. :cool1:

So my question is, what's the hype with BLT on the boards? Seems a lot of posts are based on BLT...can I get more points, do they offer this or that, etc. Am I missing something? Looking at AKV DVC but if there are more / better benefits with BLT for me, DW, DS, DD, and DU (Unborn, Undetermined gender) than I want to know too!

Also, once last question for all of you wonderful DIS'ers...where do you get the Disney icons you use at the bottom of your posts? Our kids would love to pick theirs out.

Thanks.

I think it is a variety of things.

It is the first and only DVC on the monorail and lots of people like that.

It is the latest offering, so lots of people are jumping on it.

It is walking distance to MK which is many people's favorite park

Between the restaurants at the CR and at GF, people can eat well, albeit expensively and still be just around the corner from "home".

It has the lowest maintenence fees

Disney has just announced some deals for buyers including developer points.

89% have theme park (20%) or lake views (69%).

BLT is a long awaited DVC resort. As a part of the Contemporary Resort it has a large sentimental value to many long-time DISer's. They started sales in Sept. without much incentive - within the past week they added matching developers points good through early Oct. '09.

DVC recently sent a mailing out (that not all of us have received yet) which says they will be raising the minimum add-on requirement at BLT from 25 pts to 100 pts on January 16 - a first for them to raise the minimum add-on requirements. Also, in the same mailing it was announced that the minimum buy-in for new DVC owners will be increased from 160 pts to 200 pts - another significant increase. The other news this mailing contained was that the price per point at AKV will be raised to $112 at the same time.

This mailing has also created some additional hype as it was apparently designed to push members over the fence who were considering whether or not to add on anything less than 100 pts. The current economic condition apparently is not affecting the majority of DVC'ers as they seem to falling all over themselves to add on and take advantage of this new threat before it takes place. The rest of us who are not in a financial position to jump at this deal right now are just SOL.

being able to walk to your home after a long night at MK - rather than wait for a bus, ferry, monrail or boat - is a big one for me!

but can't afford it right now.

If you are looking for more points per money you must look for a resale...

Looking at AKV DVC but if there are more / better benefits with BLT for me, DW, DS, DD, and DU (Unborn, Undetermined gender) than I want to know too!

Those benefits anonymousegirl has listed very well, so if you are looking for location (if you have young children, you must do it), views of the MK, castle, fireworks from your own balcony (instead of staying in the middle of the crowd with babies or small children) and once again, LOCATION, because you are surrounded for some of the best Disney resorts as the GF, Poly and contemporary.

So, if your favorite park (or your childrens favorite) is Magic Kingdom and you can afford the high price per point BLT has, you must buy it.

If you prefer the savanna style, and more themed resort, then AKV is for you.

I don´t know if I can do this, but you can see the virtual tours for each here and compare:

Thanks for the responses. Makes a lot of sense, the distance to MK. Little kids weigh so much more when they're asleep, exhausted from Disney fun!

We own at OKW and this is still the resort that is best suited to our needs, but next year we are only able to stay for 8 nights and have decided to try to stay at BLT.
There are a number of reasons why BLT will work better for us next year:

BLT costs more points and will help us to use up our points (even if we bank some points into our 2009 use year, we would not be able to use them all as we are doing the Transatlantic Cruise and will only be able to spend two or three nights at WDW after the cruise.

I am a big Disney nut, but DH is not. He will have easy access to TTC and therefore to the Lynx network so that he can venture out.

My favourite parks are MK and Epcot and having monorail access to both is a major draw.

We both really love the monorail and staying at a monorail resort is a distinct advantage.
