BLT Point Chart Anomaly - Lake View Weeknds cheaper than Standard!?

The official Point chart has weekend nights for Lake View Studio cheaper than Standard View for much of the year - can this be right?

The point calculator seems to use the same values as the chart.

Now personally, we already do things like day to day booking at the 11 month mark, so would easily spend 5 weeknights in a standard view then move to a lake view for the weekend. Less points, better view.

Theoretically, for each person who does this there is potentially someone who wants a week of lake view and may have to switch to a standard view on the weekend because anal-compulsive bookers (like me) have done what I've described.

Then again, maybe it is just an error.

Haven't actually booked under the new system, but for the above example I would book the whole week standard view at 11 months and then five days later call again and switch my weekend to standard view, or something like that.

Heck, I might not even bother in practice - though switching rooms within a resort is not hard at all. It seems kinda foolish to set up a point structure that encourages such switches.

Wow! - Good observation...

I know that DVC has the right to distribute the points on the chart as they see fit, and maybe they figured since the standards are a bargain during the week, make the members pay a little more to extend their stay over the weekend. It is true that a lot of people are going to schedule a transfer from one room catergory to another because of this, I bet. But as DVC reserves the right to reallocate the points within the chart, I wouldn't be surprised to see the Standard/Lake View weekend rates reversed before too long. (Either to correct an error or to avoid future headaches.)

Actually what they have done with the point structure is somewhat clever. In comparison to other resorts they have changed the percentage difference between weekday and weekend points (somewhat higher weekday, somewhat lower weekend in proportion) and did it more so for lake view, which will be the majority of all rooms and thus the easiest to get throughout the owner's home resort reserving advantage period. The purpose is apparently to give more incentive to use those weekend nights for the majority of rooms and do week-long stays. Among other things, they are purposefully inviting those who may usually just do standard studio five nights to consider doing that extra day or two and getting that nice lake view and thus raise weekend occupancy.

It is interesting that they are inverted, but I don't know how many people would move to save a point or two here and there. Moving is a pain in the patootie.

Our guide said that there are inaccurate point charts "out there". The one she had was incorrect, too, and management has been notified.

So maybe we'll see revisions sometime soon.

It's only happening on studios, the larger rooms are higher for LV.

Why on earth would my guide say it was incorrect if it wasn't? The goof-up in standard views being more "expensive" than lake views pretty much proves that outright, doesn't it?

No, no - I'm not saying your guide would provide false information. I'm wondering what the point calculator is saying. Does it match the point chart posted on the DVC Member website?

Points for studio + 1 br no longer = 2 BR or so..
Some of the old charts that used to hold true..
But it seems like your 2br's now are definetly more 'bang for the buck' that getting a separate studio + 1br..

Of course, that also means that Disney gets more 'points' used, when people only reserve a studio for their trip, or a 1br.. I'm sure some1 alot smarter than me has thought that fact through.

I'm also wondering when we can get our hands on the packet/.pdf file the point chart came out of... Anyone read the fine print... Can't wait to have my copy!!!

I think that is how it is for all the resorts I have looked at. We booked a two bedroom and every chart I looked at showed it using less points than studio + 1 bedroom. I would have booked a studio + 1bedroom if they were the same price that way we could customize dining plan for the group.

I did run the numbers through the calculator for a Saturday in October '09. The points chart indicated the same number as the calculator.

Don't know now... maybe it is supposed to be that way.

They have definately pulled the chart from the member site so it probably does seem to be an error. The point calculator still has the odd values from the chart, though I suspect that will be changed sooner or later.

It looks like the Points Chart was pulled off the site ... I can't link to it anymore ... so it seems that there was at least one issue with what was posted.

My Guide told me the calculator and point chart are wrong and the standard is always the cheaper of the two.
