BLT or SSR -need help choosing a home resort!

Why? It's already selling for $30 to $40 less then Disney is asking.

Seriously do NOT buy a timeshare (and DVC is a timeshare) thinking you will get your money back out of it. Assume it's a "sunk cost" and if you do sell and recover any cash that's a "bonus"

Best piece of advice to give to any prospective buyer.

We own at both SSR & OKW, I would buy at SSR for the lower price and a resale. Have never had a problem getting reservation at the high end resorts with 7 month window.

We are looking at buying 125 points direct from DVC. I've read all the "how to choose a home resort" threads, and they have been really helpful. We've narrowed it done to BLT and SSR, and I would love to have any opinions that you guys have on staying at either one. Thanks!
Isn't the minimum buy in for DVC 160 points now? Or do you already own DVC & are adding more points at a different resort?

Only sold out properties have 160 minimum purchase for new owners. AKL, BLT and SSR have 100 point minimum for new owners.

Not true--well, at least it wasn't about a month or so ago. I know someone who was in the process of buying 60 points at BWV as a new owner. Disney has been allowing new buyers in with less than 100 points at all the resorts in recent months.

Now, there are no incentives for those contracts but a new buyer can, if the UY is available, get in through Disney with less than 100 at all the resorts.

I'd concur with the previous posters on a couple of levels that buying direct from DVC probably will be much more costly for you than necessary. 125 is too large a number of points to pass up the resale market for SSR. At the same time, it's not quite enough to meet an incentive for BLT. Its also an awkward number of points for BLT -- unless you're able to book at 11 months for an SV room, your points won't stretch very far.

I took the information directly from the the dvc incentives website which recently change - used to say up to 100 points - price, now it says 160 point minimum by in for the sold out properties for new owners. Not sure if they are enforcing it or not but I noticed it had change on the website.

We own at BLT. Location is most important to family. We understand many people don't like the feel of BLT which feels a little less Disney. Have stayed one night at SSR and enjoyed it.

Financially speaking SSR appears more economical, if that is the proper word for DVC.

Sometimes got to say what the heck.

Monorail, boats and walking to MK are big pluses at the end of a long day.

If you can buy resale,do so on either resort, it cost less. If your not in ahurry you will find the UY you want and it may come with banked points. If you are borrowing from Disney then go with what you want. BLT is walking distance to MK. SSR is walking distance to DTD, where you can shop, eat, take boat rides, night entertainment, and you can catch a bus to anywhere in Disney.

I know--my guide says that they do not publish that new buyers can get in with less than 100, but if a new buyer calls and says that they want in for less, at this time (well, at least when I talked to him about a month ago), they would draw up a contract.

So, any new buyer who wants to go through Disney should at least give them a call to see if they are still allowing it happen.
