Did our first stay at BLT in Dec. and realized that it was not built for short people. After a rough start we did enjoyed our stay and loved the location.

I am a little shy of being 5' and never had any issues at any other DVC resorts but I did have some problems at BLT. The kitchen cabinets are a little higher making it difficult to reach anything on the second shelf let alone anything on the 3rd shelf. Also the microwave is higher! I was able to reach in as long as it was in the front but if it was in the back I could not get it out. Thank goodness my DH is taller. In the master bathroom the mirror is higher. I never thought shoes made that much of a difference but I needed them on to see in the mirror without looking at the beveled part of the mirror.

Never thought 1 or 2 inches make such a difference but do they ever at BLT. Next time we stay I may need to ask for a step stool!

Our first stay was also dampened by the room. We checked in late about 8:00 pm. Check in went smooth but when we arrived at our room we were greeted with a big fan blowing on wet carpet. After calling the front desk they said they would call us back, finally after 20 minutes I called them back to get another room assignment. We eventually got settled into a new room about 9:30. Not a great way to start your stay.

We stayed in 1BR bay lake view overlooking the pool. Great view! Few scuff marks on furniture but nothing major. Loved having the 2nd full bathroom and the location of the resort, but still did not have that home feeling like OKW does for me. We will be staying again in June so hopefully it will start feeling like home.

Looking forward to our next stay.

I think I've seen 10 reports in the last few weeks of "fan blowing on the wet carpet" -- from all different resorts!

Thanks for the short person tip - I am also under 5' so I would have the same issue. Nothing like only seeing the top of your hair and forehead in the mirror! :rotfl:

I saw your post and had to laugh- we just returned from BLT and that was my first observation about the room. I am 5' exactly and kept telling my husband that this room was not meant for someone my height. I hated the bathroom mirror as unless I was standing dead center, I could barely see all of my face. The cabinets in the kitchen were too high as well, I had to be on my tip toes or jumping to get things out. This was our first DVC stay so I just assumed all the DVC resorts would be like this.

I'm 5' 10" - I guess BLT is just right for me - good thing that's where I have most of my points!

LOL! I saw your title and KNEW exactly what you meant! I am also an inch under 5 ft. and yes that mirror in the bathroom is not in a good position for me!! I also usually wore my shoes while getting ready so I could see in to it. It's also not kid height friendly for my little guy. He couldn't use either sink to brush his teeth so we put the ottoman in front of the kitchen sick so he could brush. I also used the ottoman as a step stool to reach a baking pan and bowl in the kitchen.

However we still loved our stay there and look forward to returning there.

Don't hold your breath for a step stool. We used to get one at OKW for the high beds, but they no longer let guests have one :(. After reading this thread, I will rethink our idea of staying at BLT.

Another shorty (5') here who was hoping to try BLT someday. Now I'm not so sure. When we were in Chicago, we toured the models at Woodfield and I'm almost positive the mirror in the bathroom was at a height I could use.

I've also found that a lot of other hotel chains have installed higher than normal bathroom sinks, but so far I haven't run into a problem with the mirrors. I suppose I'm going to have to add a step stool to my list of things to pack!

BTW, the new beds at OKW are nowhere near as high as they used to be.

I feel the same way about the bathroom at AKL Jambo House. I'm 5'7, which is not short for a woman. But the tub, and the deep counters there make me feel like I need to stand on tiptoe the whole time!!

Reading this thread makes me wonder if I ever want to stay at BLT ...

Just what we need to add to the packing list - a step stool :). Good thing we usually drive to FL.

I was glad to see the lower bed in the renovated master bedroom at OKW. It was nice not to have to get a running jump start to get into bed :).

:) Could you take one of the collapsible stools in your luggage? I am 5'4" and pooh size so there are other issues for me occasionally--like walking sidewise to get through the turnstiles at HM.
